What year is this? I could have sworn it is 2006 but based on that pic it is 1973.

Don't get me wrong, I like retro schemes on some airlines and a/c...this isn't one of them though.

Hola Ricardo,

Congrats on getting the first photo of such a great looking plane! I think this one looks nearly as good as the PSA retro. Airline liveries look so much better with cheatline(s)!

Regard,

Edward

Hi Lindy Fld!! Thanks a lot!! This is a great personal achievement for me... new mexican hot stuff always comes first from the north, now it was my time!!! I know it isn't the best quality as I wanted but I tried to bring it first to all and share it here with the rest of a.net's community members!!!

I've seen PSA, Allegheny and now Piedmont in the last month... I take PSA, Piedmont and last the Allegheny!!! At least all are great for a little change... and I also agree with you, cheatlines make some scheme's look better!!!

Not bad, but would look best in full PI titles, with the US title in smaller block around the L1 door.....same with PS and the others.

I see they chose to leave the "A319/A320" A/C stripe off the lower part of the tail as originally planned.

That's probably a good thing since it was really a Boeing product logo design.

I do like it overall; probably the best-looking of the US throwback liveries. Glad to see they didn't minimize the tail titles.

Anyone know what it says under the F/O's windows?

Blue is waaaaaay too light, but they did at least get the cheatline and tail logo dimensions correct!
Would be nice to see this on the 737/767 instead, but I'll take it!

Great Pic.. Can't wait to see it in person...

Very impressive! It's really good to see the Piedmont colors and the wonderful Speedbird flying again. It could be the lighting, but does it seem like the blue on the new bird is a little faded out compared to the blue on one of the originals?

At any rate, it's great to see the Piedmont bird flying. Was in CLT a few weeks ago and had the pleasure of seeing the PSA bird as well. The "Smile" brought one to my face!

I agree. However, at the time the Allegheny retro livery came out, some A.netters knowledgeable about the decision reported that the airline insisted upon putting the title "US Airways" above the cheatline. Whatever.

On the PI plane, they should at least make the "US Airways" titles red, in keeping with PI's red titles. Same with the Allegheny one, as AL's titles were also red.

I see it says "(something) Pacemaker" by the nose--nice touch.

Really great that a merged company would take the time, money, and effort to recognize the contributions of the predecessor companies and it's employees. I certainly wish my company had done this rather than the steamroller effect.

This one does seem too light a blue however. Maybe some hunting will turn up what they were trying to copy.

Absolutely. Even if us A.netters have suggestions for improving the actual execution, it's still terrific that US is doing this in the first place.

Looks alittle too baby blue to me... but maybe it's just the lighting. Overall looks good and I'm very glad to see it! Last I saw Piedmont was when I flew them on my first plane ride back in '88.

I'm not sure if the blue is too light or not.

Keep in mind that all of the old Piedmont photos are scanned images from prints...which can sometimes affect the color depth...as well as age of the photo or the quality of the camera/film used.

As an aside, have there been any pics of the redone Allegheny livery?

The Piedmont Pacemaker was the first Piedmont DC-3 to serve Charlotte.

Looks great, btw. Although it does seem a bit light.

I do think the blue cheatline is a little lighter in color than PI's
Boeing aircraft. But it seems that PI's F-28s were also a little
lighter blue than their Boeing counterparts.

I wish Air Canada did this. They've got Canadian Pacific (CP Air), Canadian Airlines International, Pacific Western, Nordair, plus the variations of their own name!

I especially would love to see a 777 in CP Air colours:

Congratulations G77 It s ammazing that the very same day you catch this bird it was uploaded in the base. I have not seen this before, and for me it only speaks of the high rank you, APM and Mexico Photographs have achived.

BTW i would love to see, as someone noted, the original PI titles or at least the US AIRWAYS in red to better match the livery

That's one of my favorite Canadian liveries ever, I don't even know why I like it so much, maybe the sharp edges and simple yet colorful pattern.

I prefer that style than the wavy stuff that's in fashion nowadays. Wish I would've seen this livery in person. What a great scheme that Pacific Western is.

And that would explain all those Piedmont Airlines Slides floating around with these same colours.....Although, the colours on the actual Piedmont planes and in the slides are a bit darker or richer than on the Airbus pictured....
Also, I think that the Speed Wedge logo on the Allegheny Airbus is DE-Emphasised too much...
Also the PSA plane would look best if it was the PINK ORANGE and RED colours....
Im still waiting for the Mohawk and Lake Central versions....

It would be nice if they floated the retro concept to some other types in the fleet...
The A319 just looks pudgy to me, it's not the most elegant looking aircraft out there....
Now the 757 would be another story....hell, I'd even settle for some Retro A321 action....or A320, but the A319 does not show these schemes in the best light.

I totally agree, "US AIRWAYS should be in Red. No Brainer.

Anyone got a pic of the re-done Allegheny scheme?

I noticed that as well on the earlier image, and knew that the "A320" in Boeing's type font and corporate livery from the 1980s would ruffle some feathers if it appeared on an Airbus retrojet. Someone (like us) must have picked up on the faux pas, probably the result of a graphic artist without an appreciation for aviation trademarks.

The blue seems okay to me...I remember seeing the Piedmont terminal at DCA as a kid...and all their 73's...Maybe I'm just stoked to see a Piedmont livery at all. Although I agree that they should have used red in the US Airways name.
