Boeing's Next 747?

Thu Jun 15, 2000 3:59 am

I was reading up on Airbus' new Superjumbo...i was just wondering...what is Boeing planning to do about it? Are they going to start their new 747? or is it too early for that? I was reading Airbus already has commitments from Cargolux and Atlas... 2 major freighters who only used nothing but 747's. I would think Boeing would not be pleased with this kind of news...I don't wanna see the 747 get upstaged...Boeing please have something up your sleeve...Any info. would be appreciated...thanks...

Boeing will probably bring out a 747-500 and 747-600 to challenge the A3XX. UPS and Cargolux have expressed more interest in the 747X than in the A3XX. I think Boeing will decide that the 747X is not a solution to the A3XX and will lauch the 747-500 and 747-600 to enter service in 2005-2007.

There's been a lot of rumors about this topic. I'm sure that Atlas and Cargolux will continue their all-747 fleet. What was your source for Cargolux and Atlas finding interest in the A3XX?

what will it look like? What will be different about it? How about putting four 777 engines on the new 747? That would be a beast!

I can't find a good photo on thw web, but the 747-600X a lot longer. It has bigger wings and 777 size engines. The upper deck is about as long as a 737. Pretty cool, huh?

Boeing 747-400:

I read in the January, 2000 edition of Airways that Atlas Air is "very enthusiastic" about the A3XX. I don't know about Cargolux and the A3XX.

Here are the FACTS that I am getign directly out of the Flight International magazine from two weeks ago:
"Boeing is focusing on a baseline 747-400X which will be available in the third quarter of 2002 and the stretched, wing root insert 500-seat 747X Stretch (70 meter wingspan, 80 meter fuselage) could enter service as early as the second half of 2005. The aircraft are related, the 400X being a higher gross weight aircraft providing the structural "bridge" to the later Stretch. Boeing's weight for the 400X remainss at 413,140kg (910,000lb), while the 747X Stretch has stabilised at 473,520kg. Boeing's family plan is for a -400 replacement to "fall out" of the 747X Stretch, along with freighter and domestic models."

Bottom line: Boeing is making 2 seperate planes. the 747X and the 747-400X.

I hope this helped you guys. I have a ton more info and I do have sources at Boeing.

Same Old -500X/600X?

Thu Jun 15, 2000 11:47 pm

Is the new 747-500/600 identical to the ones proposed in 1997 ??? Will Boeing re-activate the 1997 proposal ? I would certainly think that it would wise to re-activate the original 77m long 747-500 and the 85m long 747-600 design as they had already invested a huge sum on designing and defining it.

I found a website with some poor quality drawings of the 747-400, 747-500X, and 747-600X if you wanna take a look. Boy, that -600X is gonna be LOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!!
