Why No CLT-MDW Service By US Airways?

Thu May 18, 2006 1:59 am

Recently, AirTran inaugurated CLT-MDW nonstop service which was formerly served by ATA and US Airways Express. Is US Airways going to go head to head with AirTran on CLT-MDW? I looked at the US Airways timetable and they have reduced frequencies on ORD-DCA and ORD-CLT. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

US seems fairly content to focus on ORD. Bear in mind that MDW is not a happy place for most legacies. AA has left, UA has cut back, and DL has cut back severely (eliminating mainline and service to CVG). US could probably match or exceed the frequency (it was 15x weekly YV last time around), but yields wouldn't be very good.

US used to fly MDW-CLT from 2003 till 2004 (I think). They ran 3 or 4 flights a day on CRJs to compete with TZ when they had 738s on the route. Yields were poor at best for the CRJ on the route.
