Singapore Airlines Hangar At SFO

Thu May 18, 2006 3:42 am

While I procrastinate, I was just wondering:

Why is there a Singapore Airlines Limited branded hangar at SFO? You see it as you go along the road to the airport.

Intriguing.

You're probably looking at their cargo warehouse.

Why do you need a hangar when you replace the A/C before the first check....  biggrin

Yes, it is their Cargo Warehouse. Many carriers have their warehouse in that area of the airport.

Oh marvellous.

And a well-positioned hangar it is.

Kudos to Singapore Airlines Cargo - We've Got What It Takes and to you both for answering my question!

They have one at LAX as well. You can see it as you come off the 105 into the airport.

i don't think its a hanger, its where they transfer their cargo. its the same at ORD. BA has a cargo warehouse like 3miles from the airport itself. its where they transfer and sort the cargo.

Actually you rent What It Takes from Delta. The hangar was inherited from Western in the merger in 1987. SQ put a bunch of rollers in it, and it now functions not as a maintenance facility, but as a cargo facility for SQ. Delta also houses some cargo admin and sales personnel in the offices of the building.
