Airbus Converted Freighter A320&A330/340

Fri May 19, 2006 6:41 am

Looks like Airbus is going to go into freighter conversion business in partner with two Russian companies, Irkut and MiG, and Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW).

Two production sites; Dresden for widebodies (A330/340) and Lukhovitsy for narrowbodies (A320 Families)
Production is expected to be 30-35 Narrobodies and 10-12 widebodies.

I did not expect A330/340 getting converted this early to freighters

Quote:
European companies Airbus and EFW and Russian corporations Irkut and MiG signed a memorandum for creating a joint venture to convert passenger airplanes A320/330/340 into cargo aircrafts in Berlin yesterday. According to Irkut vice-president Valery Bezverkhny, the planes will be converted in Dresden and in Lukhovitsy near Moscow. The annual turnover of the joint venture will reach nearly $300 million when it starts working at full capacity. Volga-Dnepr Group announced its plan to convert Boeing at Ulyanovsk Aviastar Joint Enterprise factory in November. It promises to completely develop the business-plan for this project by the end of the year.

Probably the conversion programm from pax to freighter will beginn when the airlines having ordered the 787 , will phase out the Airbusses.

When the A350 (or A370 ?) will enter commercial service , the A330 line will only produce MRTT (like the first Australian machine) and freighters , as it seems that Airbus will go ahead with the A330-200F.

Some weeks ago i said the A330F and A340F conversions will come very soon - and i was criticised from some airliners.net users.

It was mentioned more than one time, that the A340F is simply not economical...

Where are these people now?!?
