The Smaller Airlines, How Do They Stand?

Fri May 19, 2006 4:16 pm

My question is, how are these smaller airlines such as: Horizon, SkyWest, Comair, Mesa doing in the airline market? I am hearing a lot about Delta at rock bottom, United trying to come up from rock bottom. This and that with bigger carriers but how about the smaller ones? Are fuel prices effecting them as bad as the other carriers? Will we see these smaller ones take over more of the travel across the country? Such as a Horizon in every state?

From what I observe, the smaller airlines are often making a profit. Their labor costs are lower. Since 9-11 they have taken over many mainline flights on routes with less demand. For example, OAK-LAX was mostly UA mainline; then the route went to UAX.
