Malev Current Equipment At Gatwick?

Fri May 19, 2006 7:30 pm

What is Malev using to LGW these days? The photo database last shows a Fokker 70 in 2003!

Didn't know they flew into LGW at the moment... I thought they were a LHR airline

Current schedules show a mixture of F70, 736, 73G, 738, depending on the day of service.

Ok thanks. I find it interesting that photos from LGW should omit anything Malev-like for 3 years. Maybe they suspended service for a while since then?

I think they must have done. A quick search brought up that the BUD-LGW route was only started on 1 May this year, 12 services a week. I can't find when they pulled out though.

Just curious, what was your interest in Malev at LGW? Seems a strange search?

Who is Malev

Malev is the national carrier of Hungary, they only fly within Europe (with the exception of Turkey and worldwide charters such as BKK and HKT). They operate a fleet of 767-200's, 737-800's, 737-700's, 737-600's, F70's and CRJ200's  Smile

Thinking of going to Budapest from London this summer...Without knowing whats assigned, it intuitively seemed a greater possibility of snagging a first 737-600 or F70 flight at LGW than LHR.

Are the MA flights operating into LGW instead of LHR now? Or are they operating alongside their LHR operation?

MA is notorious for changing equipment type on its european flights. Every route has a assigned type but if the load factor doesn´t warrant, MA will send whatever aircraft is closest in capacity to demand. I would say besides the CRJs and B767s, LGW has a good chance of seeing all of MAÿs fleet.

They also fly to JFK (daily in summer), YYZ (5/week in summer).
As a winter charter they have Male, Varadero, BKK (sometimes it's also scheduled during the winter time), Punta Cana etc... They code-share with HU on the PEK-BUD-PEK route.

Who is Malev and the hell is Niue?

I would think someone who is living in the UK, knows the aviation in Europe...

As the others wrote, MA has suspended the LGW service since a while, and they focused on LHR. Than, due to lack of slots in LHR, they started a double-daily service to STN. It wasn't so successful, so they dropped STN and flew to LHR only, again. After BA announced during the winter, that they will terminate the LGW-BUD daily service, MA announced a double-daily (weekdays) service between BUD-LGW, mainly operated with B736. (I have 2 return flights booked with MA from LGW to BUD, and both say it will be a B736 all on the 4 flights...)

There is also a rumor about a BA-MA code-share on the London - Budapest flights...

Thanks. Have booked a LGW-BUD-LGW trip.
EBookers site I used says 737 (hopefully 736) .
Malev site says Fokker70 (other daily flights on same route:736).
I will be happy either way!

With Malev planning to join Oneworld, that wouldn't be a surprise
