Alaska Airlines Question

Sat May 20, 2006 1:00 am

Hello...I applied for a job with Alaska airlines and was wondering if anyone can give me the 'scoop" on the airline...i.e. what it is like working for the airline..the atmosphere...the people, etc...plus, are there any good places to find the history or other information besides the airline website? thanks and cheers  Smile

well, it of course depends on what you applied for. I know that MOST of the F/A, enjoy their jobs immensly. I talk to them on a daily basis, and they all love what they do. they ESPECIALLY love their jobs now that they all got their new contract.

Ramp....im not quite sure how they like their jobs. From what i hear the guys/gals up here really like it. Sure its cold in the winter, but they deal with it.

CSA....fun job, but you deal with all the crap. ( im learning this... :-P ) you gotta take the good with the bad. and most of it is good!

lastly...I would just like to say, i have not met many alaska airlines employee that do not like their job. for the most part, those types of people, that don't like their job, do not pass probation. the interview process is pretty rigerous, and its that way for a reason, they only want to hire The Best people. ( I KNOW this isn't true in ALL stations...some stations AS is desperate for help, and they will take anyone ) but if you are in a station where it is well staffed, and they have to turn people DOWN for the job, then you will see the kind of people alaska airlines is known for. Long story short...there are BAD employees everywhere, at ANY job.

I have to say that I feel like I have another family here at work. I know the F/A that fly in here by name. Same as most of the CA/FO. We all look out for each other, and care for each other.

If you get job offered...I wouldn't turn it down. Its a great place to work!

While some may disagree with me, I can best describe my company one way - it's a family.

Of course like any family you'll occasionally have your ups and downs, disagreements and hand-wringing - but at the end of the day, you're still a family.

Some people don't get it. Some people don't want to get it. And usually those are the ones who don't last, or even make it through their probationary period.

But I'm here to tell you that in return for the 14-plus years I've been an employee, Alaska Airlines has been VERY good to me - and it keeps getting better.

Best of luck in the application process!  Smile

The airline industry is a tough one to work in.
Having said that, AS is one of the better employers out there.
I don't know what your career goals are, but if you want to
make your way up the ladder (or food chain), always volunteer for
extra projects and try to take as many training classes as you can.
Efforts like these will be remembered, and hopefully rewarded.
Best of luck to you.

The ANC/ORD route ended up being a really good proving ground
for AS as far as some NG long haul flying goes.
After seeing that it was a reliable operation, the airline launched all the
transcon service from Fortress Seattle.
I think when there more 800s in the fleet, you will see ANC/IAH as requested
by another poster.

Quoting Jetdeltamsy (Reply 6):

Correct - tobacco, because hiring for a nicotine-free workforce means lower insurance costs to the company, and 'anything else' because it's illegal (and no one else will hire a recreational drug user, anyway!).
