Jet Blue Ever Interested In SWF?

Sun May 21, 2006 9:17 am

I was just looking at this slide show that SWF has on its website showing why airlines should choose the airport and in the slide show there is a slide that shows the check in counters. The photo shows the check in counters for Delta Connection, jet Blue, Trans Meridian, US Airways, Independence Air, and American Eagle.

Trans Meridan has stopped operations along with Independence Air and Delta Connection stopped flying to SWF sometime in the past two years.

What struck me when I saw the photo was that there was a check in counter for jet Blue!

Another slide in the slide show, shows routes wanted and under requested routes (not sure if that means by an airline or by the airport) it shows West Palm Beach, Islands, and Montreal as requested, West Palm Beach and Islands are destinations of jet Blue.

Any ideas what's up? The photo must have been taken before October 27th since the Allegiant Air check in counter is not shown in the photo.

Well at the ticket counter shot there is a white added in blotch over the back of the counter so you cant see it but you can see jetBlue on the top of the counter. Then for routes it just says requested and it doesn't say anywhere on it jetBlue. It is just in orange and says it is requested, nothing else.

Yeah I wasn't sure if it applied to routes requested by the airport or routes requested by an airline. Conidering West Palm Beach and Islands are both destinations that jet Blue serve I just figured it could be possible

I think this has to do with SWF's extreme interest in B6. I remember reading somewhere that proper equipment (such as ticket counter space) was being made available in advance so that B6 would have an easier time setting up shop if it did decide to start service.

On another event, a B6 plane had to divert to SWF when there were major storms at JFK. It ended up pulling up to a tarmac that had a large sign saying "JetBlue 20-year lease parking only" (or something along those lines).

It seems that the airport is using more non-traditional methods to attract B6 in addition to the traditional "our airport is better because..." lobbying.

I always thought that JetBLue would eventually begin service to SWF......a couple of A320 or E190 flights ou tof SWF to PBI and/or FLL and maybe a daily flight to MCO would be successful as part of the huge NY-FLorida market.....JetBlue could proably command reasonably high fares, as many pax using SWF would pay a premium to avoid LGA, JFK or EWR.

SWF needs a boost.

Last we heard, B6 is looking to operate from all NY area airports including SWF and ISP. no guess on a date though, right now it seems as though they are looking to operate shourt hauls from JFK and BOS.
