Filming At Birmingham (UK) Airport

Mon May 22, 2006 8:52 pm

Does anyone know if there are any locations along the main runway at Birmingham (UK) Airport where I could film take offs and landings ? I would need to be above the fence (or any other obstacles).

Sounds good, I wan't to try filming at BHX aswell  Smile

Here is a small guide to spotting at BHX, some of the spots on here may be useful for filming:

Have you managed to get any videos so far?

Good luck  Smile

Just to let you know the temporary barrier on the spiral staircase has been replaced by a permanent barrier. I have not seen any one get access to that landing for a long time. There is a gate on the A45 (Coventry Road) which runs parallel to the runway which would allow sight of the aircraft landing and taking off but this would mean
a. shooting film through the gate and
b. attracting the attention of Airfrield security / police as the gate is to be left un-blocked.

Short of gaining access to the airfield via the Airport authority I do not think you will have too much luck with this.

I would suggest the car park on the cargo centre but you have obstructions part way along the runway (the hangers). There is also Forward House (an office block on the cargo centre) but the same obstructions would apply.
I will say this though, my photos from when I worked in that building did not turn out too bad.
I'm lucky my job is my hobby

Thanks for the info, mate. It sounds as though Birmingham is poor for filming from outside the fence, so I will probably leave this for the present time.

Many a year ago, I was spotting out at BHX.

I was stopped on the side of the road, was right by a bunch of car dealerships and there was a forested area on the other side of the road.

Anyone have any idea where that was?

Cheers,
