After Berlin, A380 Spotted At TLS With LH Markings

Mon May 22, 2006 9:32 pm

An Airbus A380 arrived in Toulouse yesterday with Lufthansa titles on the side of its nose, after returning from the ILA Berlin air show (pictured below).

The aircraft, manufacturer's serial number 004, had been expected by some to be displayed at the show in full Lufthansa livery, following the precedent set at both the Dubai and Singapore's Asian Aerospace show, when the manufacturer applied Emirates and Singapore Airlines foils respectively.

OK, I'll rephrase: how come LH doesn't get all the bells and whistles at it's "hometown" airshow?

Maybe the aircraft was too busy to get the full livery.

..., and why weren't there VS titles on the aircraft when it visited LHR? On the visits to Asia, Airbus was diligent to have at least the small titles on the aircraft. I understand that doing a whole livery with the stick-ons maybe wasn't practical, but it does seem odd that they didn't do that at LHR considering VS is the only customer in the UK so far.

Quoting Leelaw (Reply 2):

LH's livery is somewhat more complex than EKs or SQs, what with the grey etc, and so not so cheap/quick/easy to appy and take off again.

Quoting 11Bravo (Reply 4):

VS aren't getting their a/c for a while - they are not considered a 'launch customer' like EK or SQ, and so are much less important. Also, the trip to LHR, while well publicised, was quick and purely to check compatibility. the Asian Aerospace Show was more for showing-off than anything else.

agreed. when the A380 first visited FRA for the same reason, it did not bear any titles. No LH titles although it was their home base.

also, SQ and EK are putting themselves into the spotlight at every occasion. LH has a more down-to-earth approach when it comes to marketing and PR. i don't think this issue was high on LH's agenda at all.

Or maybe a new livery will be introduced that LH does not yet want to be revealed? Just a guess....

Actually, what looks strange to me is the way this article is phrased.
The title is about the A380 spotted at TLS with LH markings, why TLS? Why not SXF as the text of the article reports?
There is plenty of pictures showing the A380 spotted at SXF with LH markings.
It looks like that the writer wants us to believe that these marking were applied "After Berlin air show", on the way to TLS!!

As we all know, LH is very closely involved, providing crews for two major events in the program so far: the full scale evacuation test and the virtual first commercial flight.

I really do not understand Flight Int. journalistic approach this time.

Agreed. Although it does say in the end that the a/c flew like this at the show, this article is a rather strange.

Sky News reported that the A380 at LHR had flown in from the Berlin Airshow, not sure if that's correct though.

IMO, Flight International is just miffed that the aircraft didn't look like the mock-up that had been prepared oh-so carefully by its art department:
Big version: Width: 445 Height: 603 File size: 39kb

and instead looked like this:
Big version: Width: 445 Height: 297 File size: 12kb

The A380 involved flew from the Berlin Air Show to LHR via Broughton and Filton. When it left LHR the following day to return to Berlin, it seems the LH titles were added. I think I've got that right  Wink

Maybe we'll see the A380 at Farnborough in full VS colours?!

Does anyone know where and when the LH titles were added? must have been sometime on the 19th after F-WWDD left LHR

In addition, she looked messy when on stand at LHR,

It was still clearly visable where the 'A380 First To Fly' SQ titles had been near the front, as the paint had faded quite considerably around the decals and had made 'ghost' titles.

Dont get me wrong I know i'm being picky, but airbus could have cleaned her up a little better regardless of cost, espessially as she was star of the show at Berlin!!

I wonder which ship will be at Farnborough this July... anyone know??

I know how random this sounds but the old CX colours, the green and white stripes, would have looked amazing on the 380. Does anyone know of a modified photo of that? I would love to see it.

They changed the plane shortly due to technical problems before the FRA visit....but even the other didn't had LH colors.

As I had posted 100 times I post it again (I seem to be the only one who didn't expected the A-380 LH or VS colors here in the forums). Why should they paint the 380 in LH or VS colors as they both aren't such big/important customers like EK or SQ. EK has ordered more 380's than all the others, LH is No. 4 in the row I think. And SQ is the launch customer.

But the most impressive thing is that most here in the forum post again and again how boring/old and ugly the LH colors are and that the same people now bitch and moan that we don't have the 380 in these boring/old and ugly colors.

Correct and another reason not to paint the 380 in the colors of one of those carriers....imagine what would've happen here if the 380 had visited LHR in LH cls or SXF in VS colors.

I for myself hoped to see it in house colors because in few years we have the VS/EK/LH/SQ/.... colors all around the world and then the house colors will be a rare sight.

Actually, LH is No. 2 with a firm order for 15, as well as 10 options.

Thanks for the info, in another thread LH was called No. 4 but according to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A380
you must be right.
