What Is Up With Ryan Air's Schedules

Tue May 23, 2006 2:59 am

Just curious if this is more common occurance these days.

I scheduled a trip from DUB-GOT on Ryan air about 2 1/2 months ago. We're traveling at the end of the month.

The issue is that I have had my flight schedule changed 5 times since I booked the tickets. 3 times in the last 3 weeks. So much so, that I've had to change my trip around in Sweden. It is at the point that they should really add a category to the itinerary that says "Chance that your flight will change prior to your trip XX%".

My wife's sister works in a tourism organization in Ireland, and she's told us that there have been a rash of flight schedule changes among LCCs (not sure about IE), and that it has caused a lot of issues for the business community in Ireland. Conferences in Ireland have been severly affected by these issues.

Anyone have some insight into what is going on? I don't want this thread to be a LCC vs Flag carrier thing. Just curious why the schedules are changing that much.

When first announced I believe that FR intended to arrive GSE (not GOT) around 10 in the morning for the new DUB flight. This was however changed to a 14 arrival which has been the case since the route opened on April 25th I believe.
This could possibly have to do with the fact that one STN-fligth arrives around 10 and that GSE's capacity would be too limited for two FR at the same time, but probably unlikely.
The latest though is that FR will reduce frequency from daily to 4/w in the aftermath of a new tax for all airlinepassengers that Sweden will enforce. There has been lots of talk about less or no expansion from Sweden if the new tax come true, and this route, together with DUB-MMX seems to be the first victims.

Just like birdwatching - without having to be so damned quiet!

(not sure about IE),

Did you mean EI? If so, I have never had such drastic schedule changes on Aer Lingus or Aer Arann for that matter.

Sorry GOT and Shamrock350,

One of those mornings here. Should of had two cups of coffee before posting.

We are scheduled to GSE not GOT. And yes, IE not EI.

Didn't know about the tax issue, however, I did notice that the taxes on the ticket were more expensive than the ticket itself. The flight from DUB started on 1 Jun leaving at 1050, arriving at 1410. It has since changed to 2 Jun 11:00 arrive 14:20. So it sounds that they are cutting back service and just shuffling schedules to fit.

According to my sister-in-law, Aer Arann has shuffled flights and caused similar difficulties in the recent past, however EI , has been reliable.
