Candy Parachute Drop In Brooklyn

Wed May 24, 2006 11:01 am

Today May 23 2006, is the 75th Anniversery of Floyd Bennett Field located in Brooklyn NYC. For this special day at around 1130 AM,the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation aircraft, the C-54 Skymaster "The Spirit Of Freedom" & Crew were honored to perform a special Candy Parachute Drop of 75 Hershey candy bars with chutes for this special day & event over NAVY Airstation & Coast Guard Station Floyd Bennett Field! The Candy drop of fame started many years ago by a Berlin Airlift pilot,Col.Gail Halvorson for the children of Berlin Germany. Today the BAHF with there C-54 "Flying Museum Exibit" continue with this great event in history of the Operations "Little Vittles" Candy Parachute Drop! The famous "Candy Bomber" today is still with us & a special treat to have on board & a member of our Foundation!

DAM! I was driving RIGHT near there at 11:30 this morning....Do they do this every year? I remember driving on the Belt Parkway to JFK around 1999 and seeing a C-54 flying near Floyd Bennett Field...
