Odd CWL Movement

Thu May 25, 2006 8:10 am

Hey,

Just browsing through the CWL arrivals for Thursday and came across this;

MAC001 Teterboro 08:00

If I'm correct, isn't that an airport in the New York area?

Any reason for the flight and who is operating it?

Regards,
Chris

I think you're thinking of Caldwell which im pretty sure is CDW. If so, there are a number of planes whose owners live near TEB but base their plane at CDW then ferry it to TEB everytime they want to fly because they find that it is cheaper than keeping it at TEB full time (I always find that amazing given fuel costs). Its also common to see charter planes ferried to LGA, EWR, and JFK out of TEB

CWL though is Cardiff UK

Yip, here it is.

However, I can tell you that currently there is no such arrival flight planned into CWL. If that changes overnight I'll of course pass that info on.

You guys have ABSOLUTELY no idea what you're talking about!

Quoting Nycfuturepilot (Reply 3):

Did you ever think, that maybe because the guy is sporting a WALES FLAG, he might be from WALES, and that he was looking at the flight operations at the largest airport in WALES, which is CARDIFF!!
Code CWL.

Did you maybe stop and thing he was checking out the arrivals page from CWL, where it clearly shows the information he is talking about....
A flight MAC001 from TETERBORO!!!

Why would a flight operate from TEB to CDW, it's 10MILES!

Oh and by the way Christa, sorry, I have no idea why a flight from Teterboro New Jersey is flying into Cardiff....sounds like a private jet or something.
It would be nice if the airport website also listed what kind of aircraft it is! But not many do unfortunately.

Thanks for all the help, was just checking to see if anyone knew why it was operating to CWL. As said previously, must be a private charter.

Chris

I noticed this this morning too - but we do normally get unknown flights from wierd little airports don't we? So I just overlooked it!

I've had a look around, and don't know if any of these are the right one's, but the only two airlines with the MAC code as far as I can see are
MAC Military Aircraft Command (USA)
MAC Malta Air Charter

I take it it's the top one... wonder why they're flying military flights into CWL?

MAC - Malta Air Charter Company

It looks like it could be a private charter, however as its using a 001 code, it may also just be a screen test, with a new trainee being shown how to work the arrivals system. BAA seem to have a habbit of doing this, with strange destinations often appearing, quite often the code is the giveaway as they will use strange codes that dont sound plausible.

BAA neither own nor operate CWL, in fact CWL, BFS & LTN are owned and operated by the TBI Group or Abertis as they are known.

There was no aircraft with any such callsign flight-planned into CWL this morning.
Whatever it was, in the end, it wasn't!
