Air India 738 At YYZ

Fri May 26, 2006 3:23 am

FlyteComm shows an AI 738 arriving from SEA at just after midnight today (Thursday). I assume this was a delivery flight? Does anyone know how long it stayed here, and when it left, and where to?
F/C also shows a PIA flight arriving shortly after midnight tonight from Sibley, IA (ISB). I expect they mean Islamabad, though the departure and arrival times, together with the flying time shown - 1:47, seem appropriate for a flight from Iowa.

Probably an aircraft intended for Air India Express.

I saw it yesterday at BFI. It is for Air India Express.

I never understood why YYZ is used for refueling on delivery flights when it has such high landing fees. Can anyone clue me in?

Anyone know if it's VT-AXG? I took this pic of that particular aircraft at BFI last Thursday.

Just speculation, but because YYZ is an AI station, it may give them the opportunity to change crews.

JFK and EWR are also AI stations....so is ORD....would YYZ provide some advantage in terms of the distance to the next hop, which would be somewhere in Europe? Or is the 738 capable of comfortably flying to Europe when empty....?

Most likely BHX, wich have received lots of Air India Express aircraft recently on delivery flights, again another AI station  Smile

Off topic question.....but if anyone can help....

How the hell do Boeing (or anyone for that matter) manage to paint the tail with something like the Taj Mahal scheme on that 738 there? I mean, can anyone describe the technology / equipment used to paint aircraft tails / bodies, with such complicated designs....?  smile

If im correct, it may be the same way we "paint" our trains in the company i work at.

We use vinyl transfers as shown here on the new "neon" colourscheme  Smile

Yes it is VT-AXG.
Supposed to have departed YYZ Thursday May 25 sometime in the afternoon. Not sure if she's still here at the time of this post - 17:00 EDT.

Cheers,

Just wondering...

That VT-AXB has a pic of a lady in traditional attire. Would Saudis and other orthodox muslim countries create a fuss when they see that aircraft parked at their terminals. I believe AIX is predominantly serving the Mid-east sector.

Aaarrgh! No it isn't. I was fat dumb and happy, sitting in my car at FedEx when it took off on 23. I was so absorbed in a scary article in the July issue of "Airways" called 'Peak Oil - and the Collapse of Commercial Aviation?' that I didn't notice it taxiing out for take off. I heard a plane taking off and looked up in time to see it go past. I didn't even have time to jump out of my car and get a photo. The time was 16:50 EDT. It was heading for BHX and had been parked at BAX Global.
Just to make things worse, Thomas Kim, who most local A.netters will know, showed up a little later and told me that the unpainted AC 762 was due in from YVR between 7 and 8 o'clock and would be going into the paint shop. I waited until 8:30, when the sun was setting, and it still hadn't showed up.  Angry

Info from http://www.selcalweb.co.uk/boeing.htm - a good source for Boeing delivery flights.  Wink

Did VS have a similar issue with the "British Virgin" painted on the front of their craft?

Thanks guys.....do these vinyl transfers and decals last as long as regular paint jobs? Of course, they must be costing more.....strange that a low cost carrier like AI Express should choose to 'paint' their aircraft more expensively....but, the traditional Indian designs do make you feel good.....

Air India Express is one reason to still be hopeful that not all world carriers have lost it completely when it comes to liveries. Damn, those planes look great close up.

Slightly off topic-But when a buyer picks up a new plane do they get a free tank of gas?! like you do with certainl car purchases-or does the manfufacturer deliver it with just enough gas to get to the next station?

VT-AXG is currently sat at Birmingham (BHX) after arriving early this morning. Expected to depart BHX at around 06:00am (GMT) tomorrow morning (27th) for Sharjah & Delhi.

Hope this helps,

I don't understand why Air India express as such a magnificent splashy livery but Air India's is so dull and outdated? I would have assumed that with the order for 777/787's - it would have been an opportune time to introduce a new livery on those aircraft. Why does Air India not get a new livery?

Most people find AI's livery to be attractive and unique.....it is individual perception of course, and you're surely entitled to your opinion.... smile

As for being 'outdated', what does that mean? If it looks good, it can go on for another 20 years.....

The mughal styled window treatment and cheatline are part of the unique and exquisite detail found on the livery. It would be such a shame to lose that.
The only thing I would change however would be to put the centaur on the tail.

Kaz

Fair points, I'll admit I do like the livery itself on the body of the aircraft but I do not like the tail design one bit. I don't think it looks awful, I just think it's plain. My question was more focused on 'why the inconsistency' between the two liveries of the two brands. For example, with AC and AC Jazz, you can easily tell that they are under the same banner. But AI Express just looks like a whole completely different airline.
