Is It Safe To Book On Delta

Sat May 27, 2006 8:36 am

I have to admit I have been busy recentlty and haven't had a chance to keep up on the goings on over here.

My questions is this... I am getting ready to book a trip for December... is Delta safe to book on or should I pay the extra money and fly US. How close is Delta to going under? I would hate to book on Delta then have them go under.

Actually, truth of the matter is, AirTran is cheaper then both of them but after the less than satisfactory response I recieved from customer service I won't fly them unless they are at least $75 cheaper. I guess AirTran figures it could sell my seat to 100 other people.

Go ahead and book. Delta will be around. The pilots are likely to ratify the new agreement by 65-70%, the creditors are happy with Delta's turnaround plan, and Delta has begun the largest international expansion in history this summer. The only possibility by December is if the Comair flight attendants strike, which will cause Comair to be broken up, Mesa and ASA will step in and take up the slack and will not cause much more than a burp in disruptions. So its very safe to book.

Yea, well thats Airtran for ya. It doesn't really matter to them whether you are treated like dirt, your getting the cheapo fare. If you've ever heard the saying, "You get what you pay for," then you have Airtran's work ethic.

I'm flying PHX-SJU roundtrip on DL in December, and that's for our honeymoon to connect with a cruise. I certainly wouldn't have booked with them if I thought for a moment that they'd cease to operate by then, so that ought to give you some idea of my faith in DL's existence at that time.

OttoPylit summed up everything pretty good. DL will be around in December and probably there is a small chance they will have exited Chapter 11 by then and be turning a profit. Sorry to all of the widget haters out there, but DL will rise again.

It wasn't long ago that the question was "will US still be around in December of should I book Delta?" Given the current troubled economic climate in the US there seems to be a huge reluctance to let a major airline such as DL fail. I wouldn't worry too much (well this is what I'm telling myself every time I get the urge to cash in those Skymiles).

Out of BK? I know the initial plan was sometime in 2007, but with current fuel prices is it feasible that they will return to profitability that quickly?

Well,I was looking to fly ROC-SNA or LAX the end of July, and DL was the cheapest by far!! . I even tried WN out of BUF and B6 to LGB. I'm sure DL will be around (they better be) . I'm looking forward to flying on 2 types I've never been on (CR700 & 764).

Resounding YES. Book on DL, fly the widget, and if DL's service is on, no one will beat them.

The precedent was set by UA that a big airline in CH. 11 is not a quick process.

We won't be out of bankruptcy (6 months? please.) but it's definately safe to say DL will be around. You're safe to book, I'm sure.

Let me put it this way ... I travel for business, as do many others at my employer.

We (ie: my employer) predominantly book on DL and have no plans to do otherwise ...

Would we do that if we thought DL would go away?
