Temporarily Stuck In MSP - NWA

Sat May 27, 2006 10:45 am

I have been stuck in MSP for about five hours - and it looked like it was going to be more. My flight from DTW-MSP was delayed due to weather in ORF, which is fine. Then, there was a MX issue with the right tire on the DC-9. That is fine, too...what is not fine is that my flight was still here just a few gates away, but they closed the flight five minutes prior to our arrival.

Now, I know I am not special - just a regular joe - but they had a list of the people who had connections and had a boarding card printed out. That is good forward thinking. However, mine was for TOMORROW AM! There is a flight at 9:35p and I kept hearing no no no. I was already miffed the flight was not held a few more minutes - but I understand. However, to not find a way to get me onto the later flight and just assume I am going to be fine with a hotel stay, no compensation and a total ruin of my plans is not all right. I have to pick someone up at PDX tonight at midnight - which would have worked out perfectly. I also have a hotel reservation down in Oregon tonight.

Now, I understand this happens - and weather and MX is an issue I am fine with. But do they do that all the time - any airline - w/o even checking if you want to stand-by, etc.? I think the Twin Cities are nice - but I do not want to stay here tonight.

Anyway, I got on the 9:35p flight - albeit a middle seat. I am hoping to get an exit row seat so I can sit aisle or window. I am definitely not complaining, athough I will be getting in four hours later. It is much better than it could be. However, compensation - besides hotel - is not warranted if I were stuck on the AM flight tomorrow?

Any feedback is appreciated - let me just add, I am not really complaining, just asking - and I am not flaming NW. In fact, I was happy I got to take a DC-9 flight today (maybe my last?). I like them very much and this is an anomaly as far as their service - which is superb more often than not. That's why I use them instead of DL, who I had been a supported of for 10+ years.

You should have hopped the train to the Mall of America. Piece of cake trip.

I did this once in January when my mom dropped me off *six* hours early for my flight to PHX since there were flurries expected and she didn't want to drive in snow. However, in this case, it was getting late in the evening - stores would have been closing and due to the Hennepin County smoking ban most if not all of the 4th level clubs and bars have closed down - so that wouldn't have been the best option.

Of course my bags beat me to PHX by a couple of hours.

I was delayed once in MSP because of mx for only four hours, and I got 10,000 Worldperks miles out of it. I'd hope you get something nifty from this fiasco.

Did the same thing on a 5 hour layover heading to PHX. Although it was still only 8 am and not everything was open, it was still cool to see T.M.O.A.
Ok, wait for the RJ to pass, cleared to push tail south Mike, and you're cleared to spin #2 in the push.
