The Last 747-400

Sun May 28, 2006 4:26 am

Hello, does anyone have any information as to when the last 747 will be built. Is it with the 5 orders of 747 400F's by cathay Pacific?

There's another thread, Cathay Reserves Last 5 -400F Slots. (by CCA May 27 2006 in Civil Aviation), that is discussing that CX took the last 5 slots.

Similar to the A300 situation, the last pax 744 will probably be the China Airlines airframe delivered last year. The rest of the way will likely be 744Fs.
Last 744 should be late 2009 when the 748F deliveries commence.

Alright, so we'll likely see the 744 around for the next fifteen to twenty years at least. Sweet.

That is correct. last 747-400 is to be built on 2009 when production of the 747-8 begins.

Aviation always changes .... and I am sure that there were people who said "This beauty can't go away" about the Constellation , the Caravelle .... and , of course , Concorde - but they did ... one day ( hopefully not for a long time ) so will the 744 .

I don't think anyone has anything to worry about. I'd bet that the majority of the 744's currently flying in pax configs would be able to continue to do so for another 15-20 years without breaking a sweat. After that time, they'd make excellent box haulers or startup aircraft for future LCC's. And in 2040, or whenever the last 744 should happen to disappear, there will still be plently of 748's still in the prime of their careers.

The 747 isn't going away anytime soon...if they ever do, I hope it won't be in my lifetime!

As of today, CX has not actually ordered these B-747-400Fs, yet. Do we know when or if they will order them, and will they be B747-400Fs or the B-747-400ERFs?

As far as I know, right now the last firm order for the B-747-400Fs are the 8 airplanes UPS ordered a few months ago.

me thinks Cargolux's 2 744Fs they ordered this year are more recent than the UPS order.
