The SLC Spotters Thread 4

Tue May 30, 2006 4:50 am

Hey hey Y'all, here we are again for a lovely new addition to the SLC Spotting threads. The next time I head down the 'port, I will be flying out on the SLC-EWR CO red-eye, and I'll try to get some pics taken. Any requests?

Doesn't the new Air Canada Jazz YYZ-SLC start next week? Maybe we should throw it a little welcoming picture party.

The online pdf timetable shows AC 8651 starting 6/8. Arriving at 8:50pm. So if one of you SLC natives can confirm the start date I'll head on up and meet with you guys after work if it on the 8th.

See you all soon.

If I can persuade my dad to take me to the airport (again) then, I'll be there! Hope/pray for 34s and that it comes in on 34R!

Oh and just in case anyone cares...

I'm flying SEA-SLC June 26th. Departing SEA 1740 arriving SLC 2035. I was going to try and leave SEA early enough to have time to shoot at SLC, but I want to catch BA and SAS, which arrive at 1630-ish...

We usually meet inside the S-gates (just south of Terminal 1) but there's a lot of construction going on now...we may need a new place to pow-wow?

I'm still working on starting the spotting site...I really will try and get that thing up and running soon. One week until freedom!!  Smile

Ah, sorry. It says YYZ-SLC starts on June 2nd. But I can't book nonstop YYZ-SLC AC on expedia before June 8th...so I'm inclined to think they're wrong?

Sorry for the...triple post but

Kalitta 747-200 is at SLC right now, loading supplies to take to Indonesia. Supposedly it leaves this afternoon, but I can't find a scheduled departure...yet, but I'm frantically trying.

Go get it!!

I'd like to go get a shot but I won't be able to make it out there until early evening...

(Link may not work right away, but that's the scheduled departure for KSLC.)

I can't make it to the airport today, anybody else going to be around?

Sorry, two rarebirds in 3 days and I can't get a reasonable shot of either

I need a press pass...

Oh and btw - that Kalitta 747 went from SLC to ANC, then to KHV/UHHH (Novyy, in Russia - 1.5 hrs from ANC). I presume that stop is because fuel is cheaper over there. Then, I'm guessing, it headed down to Singapore.

Kevan or Devin or SLCUT2777, did you get it??

God bless you Matsa! Any chance at finding out whether it's parked at UPS or at FedEx?

I can possibly make it up in the evening, depending on how well my dad feels. Cross your fingers for FedEx! (speaking of which, my neighbor who works there said he'd call me if he saw anything big come in...hasn't happened yet)

If I can figure the rest of this bus system out maybe I could be up there Saturday. I know I'm a no go the weekend of the 9th, but was going to try and get up there for the AC on the 8th.

If you want you can send me a message and I'll give you my cell and or screen name and we can chat about this all.

You mean the AN-124? I heard once that there is a jetway comp. here in Utah and the only way to carry them is with the Antonov. Now i don't know if the guy who told me meant the AN-124 or the AN-225.

Oops...sorry, I live here. Although i am originaly from Brazil. And I work at the aiport. The neat thing about that is that I get to see all these unusual aircraft that come here. Like when the EMB-190 from Jet Blue came here. It came here as an employee demo.

Those 2 looked like they might have come from somewhere airside. Do you ever get bugged by cops while shooting inside the perimiter fence?

No actually. Have you? Hey what kind of camera do you use? Cause i just use a canon powershot A510. I only have 4X optical zoom and 3.2 megapixels so it makes it hard sometimes.

I get stopped by the cops every now and then, usually just a friendly check. They check my ID, sometimes call it in to the station and have the station do a quick background scan, ask me how long I'm gonna be out and send me on my way. (This is outside the perimiter fence, at the golf course or in the parking garage.)

I've got a FujiFilm FinePix S3100. 6X optical zoom, 4 Mpxls. It does well from the golf course on stuff larger than those blasted lawn darts (737/320 and up), the S-gates, and occasionally the top floor of the parking garage.

This is me, btw:

Alright everyone - I set up a temporary SLC forum on phpbbforfree. It'll have to do until I can get a new webserver. I was going to wait to start one until we got the webserver - but there are probably a few people like Masta that live in SLC but can't post here b/c they're not registered. So, here it is:

http://s3.phpbbforfree.com/forums/strictlyslc.html

I need to make a decision pretty soon about mass-emails for breaking news. I'm was thinking about, for example yesterday, Masta alerted us about the AN-124. I would send a mass email to all the registered users on the forum alerting them of the AN-124, with a link to a page to get more info. Is that smart? And what should it be limited to...I'm sure Royal Jordanian would've got one, but does an MD-11 on the GA ramp get a mass email? Biz 727? Feedback here  Smile

That said, everyone go join that site! Big grin

Last time these AN-124s were here they came to bring a bunch of Lamborghinis from Europe. It was a group of rich Europeans who were gonna drive them from here to California. So they rented those ANs to bring them all the way here. I don't know if now they are coming back to pick them up or what...  Confused

Ok...i just got back from work. The officer at the airport told me this about the AN-124s: they were rented by the US Air Force to carry some portable buildings that they are sending over to Afganistan. Now get this, each building is $1.3 milion. And to rent the AN-124s $3 milions!! I really wonder why not just use the C-5s.

Saw both AN-124's today. Saw one take off for Winnepeg (used up almost all the runway taking off). Also saw one land coming in from Montreal.

Cool planes.
