Great pic. The C/S is simple but i think it is classy. I was not so sure about it from that first pic. But i like it better in this one. I hope they can start flying soon. I keep cheacking thier job openings on thier site. I Keep hoping i would see an opening for operations in MCO. I would put in for it in a heart beat if they did offer it. I miss working in ops. I used to do it in CMH for delta. I would love to do it again.

I completely agree. Too much "white", but that's the least of their worries. With Fred Reid in charge, it will never last.

They will operate a fleet of A320s, their executive HQ will be in NY and their operational base will be SFO.

I think it is a classy scheme which fits their image, although I think that they should have used the silver fuselage color like Virgin Atlantic and the same tail, with the darker border. That would make it even more easier for consumers to relate this project with Virgin Atlantic, while still being different (with the American flag on the winglets for example.

All that white makes it real easy to repaint. Does it take an "N" registration only after acceptance?

Yes, all Airbus planes have a F registration before acceptence by the airline, except for the A319 and A321 which are being produced in Germany and therefore have a D registration. Fokker planes used to have PH registrations as well before being delivered.

A bit off topic, but why don't all Boeing planes have N registrations before delivery, while some do?

That is the worst! When the highlight of a livery is the wingtip fences, then you know you have problems.

That winglet is spectacular! I think that only SAA's 340 fleet can beat it. I just hope Virgin materializes here in Atlanta. Of course, having one of Delta's old ball-wrecking, airline plundering execs as a CEO doesn't bode well for the long term.

You people really like critisizing. What exactly is wrong with the livery? It is simple and elegant. Simplicitys is good. I think the American flag in the wingtips is really a nice touch. A more complicated livery would cost more and add extra weight to the airplane. It is a low cost airline at the end.

Would have been nice to see the Virgin lady displaying the stars and stripes like she does with the Aussie flag on Virgin Blue or the Union Jack on Virgin Atlantic for that matter. I'm dissapointed hopefully a revision of somekind will be undertaken.

Many automobile companies send their "plain" versions to the USA too, so this simple livery wasn't surprising to me. America is not seen by many parts of the world to be a bastion of sophistication or style, especially in lower-cost products.

I don't notice it myself. But this photo will be going down in history books. Afterall, it is a historical event, and gets special treatment when getting screened. Didn't you know that? Just ask a certain head screener, although the rule might have changed yet again.

Regarding the topic at hand... I would also much prefer see it in silver finish. It gives the extra "umph" and contrast. The way it looks now, does it make it look dull.

Doesn't it seem odd that an airline that plans to start flying this year has not announced a single route? What are they going to do, just fly around san francisco and back?

Boring!
They should have used the red/white & blue that is on the winglets on the fueslage in some way. Keeping it simple and making plain vanilla are two different things. This is just plain, boring and not appealing but at least they have plenty of time to fix it.

I seriously doubt the long term viability of VA in the American market place. I just think they are entering the market at the wrong time. We shall see.

Not sure what you guys are whining about...as other have said, simpler can be better, and in this case, my opinion is that it looks very sharp. It'll be difficult to miss when spotting for sure.

Also, seems to me that LH's paint scheme is just as simple and with even duller colors and a less-modern font, yet I don't recall ever hearing anything bad about that livery...just a thought...

look at the clarity of the pixels around the windows near the virgin america logo. then look at the clarity of the pixels at the very edges of the virgin america logo.

since both are the same distance from the camera lens, you would expect the same exact clarity and focus. this is not the case. it's as if someone painted the virgin america logo across the fuselage in photoshop.

Hmmm

The "virgin america" on this a/c is in the "eurostile" font as used by all Virgin Airlines. In the original photo it was a different font. We discussed the new type face.

Whats going on?

The photo was uploaded by FFS, I highly doubt it is a fake/modified image. The lighting was a bit difficult and post-processing probably required a bit more work then a perfectly sunny shot but I don't believe there is any question that the titles were slapped on after-the-fact.

The fonts looks the same too me. The first photo probably looks a bit different because of the unusal angle.

I rather like the basic-ness of this livery, though it would be a bit better if it was silver, not white. Perhaps a cheat line would help break up the monotony, too. I'll add that I don't think the wingtip fences look all that great. Better than plain white, certainly--but the stars and stripes just looks hokey.

Oh this is too good to be true. Work Frank Lorenzo into the mix somehow and you've hit the trifecta! No wonder these guys want into V.A., it's an airline no one has screwed up yet. OR, it could be becuase they don't have an operating cert, thus making it premature to offer any tickets on any announced "routes".

I really think the font is different. Take a look at each letter, they are thinner and more upright on the original photo (not slanted). Look at the "a"s and "g". Defo different imo but happy to be proven wrong.
