B6 To Install TVs On AP

Wed May 31, 2006 4:53 am

Original article can be found here. Fair use excerpt follows.

Quote:
JetBlue Airways Corp. said Tuesday its subsidiary that provides in-flight television will outfit Italian carrier Air One's new fleet of Airbus A320 planes.

LiveTV LLC, a wholly owned JetBlue subsidiary, will provide in-seat audio/video systems on 30 planes, with the option to install the system of future aircraft deliveries. Terms of the contract, which includes support and content management services by LiveTV, weren't disclosed.

JetBlue said it will be the first time LiveTV's multichannel system will be available in Europe. The system offers satellite television, shown in individual seatback monitors.

Glad to see B6 expanding it's revenue streams. They have it (LiveTV) so they should put it to good use, especially overseas where there won't have their own product competing against them.

Does anyone know of any other airlines B6 has installed LiveTV for? Thanks!

My apologies if this has already been discussed, but my seach didn't discern anything. If this is a duplicate thread, please delete. Thank you.

Frontier, AirTran, WestJet and I think one of the Virgins (Virgin Blue?). Here is their website...

This is great news! Glad to see a European carrier installing live tv. I'm sure this idea will catch on to a few more airlines in the near future.

Ah, brilliant. Thanks!

I never realized that F9 had LiveTVs. I guess B6 decided the revenue from installing/maintaining the TVs for F9 outweighed any sort of competitive disadvantage? Ahh, whatever.

LiveTV also sets the a/c up for the Fox Inflight and XM radio. I have never flown on Frontier or Airtran (recently) so I don't know what IFE they have. But glad to be helpful!!!

AirTran is only using their XM Radio product (they were the launch customer for inflight XM Radio), no inflight video. That would explain LiveTV having an office in Atlanta.

Cool! I've never heard of Air One...how many aircraft do they have?

This could be a really great revenue enhancer for JetBlue Co., by the way.

According to their page on Airfleets.net, they have 27 active 737s, with one more planned. According to the article, LiveTV will be installed on 30 aircraft, with the option to install on future deliveries. So, the net effect is they have at least 30 a/c in the fleet now, with the potential for more.

AirOne (Italian for Heron) is Italy's Second largest carrier. They are a Lufthansa partner and currently has a fleet of 737s, which soon will be replaced with a fleet of Airbus 320s. They have recently added CRJ900's to the mix as well.
