10 Years Ago At Birmingham (BHX) - Pics

Thu Jun 01, 2006 4:56 am

Digging around in the garage this afternoon uncovered two photographs - my first ever aviation pics actually!

I took them with a normal 35mm camera at Birmingham (BHX) in the summer of 1996, the first time I'd ever been "plane spotting". I took the National Express coach at age 15 down to Birmingham.

Just look how empty everywhere is! The old Airtours and Monarch colourschemes! I remember BA 737-200s and BAC 1-11s there, as well as Jersey European Fokker F27s coming in, and that was about it!

Hard to believe this was only 10 years ago - how much the airport has grown up since then! To think back then BHX would have regular scheduled long haul flights, to a wide variety of exotic destinations.

Just thought I'd like to share these photos - I realise for the  old  gits among us these aren't special at all but for me it's incredible!

Some nice interesting shots there, in a way, I kinda miss the old Airtours livery.

Quoting Noelg (Thread starter):
I remember BA 737-200s

Such classic aircraft in a classic liver...sadly missed  Sad
