Until 1987, BFL did not have a baggage carousel. The cart drove up to the side of the building and you retrieved your luggage off of that.

San Pedro, Belize. The cart stops and guys get your bags off and give it to you when you show your baggage claim ticket.
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

I remember flying into MCE in 1990. There was no baggage claim. Passengers got off the plane, walked through the terminal (about 50 Feet if that) go out the front door and into the parking lot. Bags were delivered by opening the gate from the airfield and the rampers pushed the baggage cart into the parking lot.

A few years back when i took a little trip to HBA, i was most surprised the "baggage claim" was a room where they drive a tug pulling carts and u grab your bag and go... i loved it!

Try Crescent City, CA (CEC). United Express just dumps the luggage in the terminal which is smaller than some restrooms in major airports.

Interesting that three airports mentioned in the first five responses are all in California, yes?

PPP in Queensland Australia is another one where the baggage cart is brought up. Kingscote on Kangaroo Island in South Australia is another. The only airport in the states that I can think of is BMG.

Sounds like the way Pellston, MI (PLN) used to be before the new 2-gate terminal opened up... no more than 120' from aircraft to the parking lot out front.

Baggage claim consisted either of a cart, or when they were feeling fancy, a sheet of slanted metal that they dumped the bags on.

(Now there's an honest-to-goodness belt- but it doesn't go around. Plane lands, it runs 50% of the way around and stops with all of the luggage sitting there). It's the only part of the terminal that looks anything remotely like a "real airport" -> http://www.pellstonairport.com/uploa...Seating_Area_Baggage_Claim-600.jpg

Pellston...my favorite small airport.

Fxra,

Are you sure that wasn't Launceston?? (I won't use the colloquial term for fear of offending) Cos they definately do that there; as far as I know, HBA has had baggage claim carousel (yes 1) for quite a long time.

Ah, good old Tasmania....  Wink

At LST the little truck also drives to the terminal into a small covered hall. You can grab your bags urself. I'd never seen that before.. funny  crazy

Mount Pleasant Airport, Falkland Islands:
For Lan Chile flights the baggage is unloaded out of the hold straight onto the tarmac. The pax come down the steps and just walk around to the starboard side and pick their bags up.

Another wierd one is Kabul airport. There is a baggage reclaim, but the funny stuff happens on boarding. You check your hold baggage in as normal in the (chaotic) check in area. The bags are then taken to the aircraft on the back of a flat bed van, where they are unceremonially thrown onto the tarmac just in front of the forward hold. The passengers then have to queue up to load their own bags into the hold themselves!

Bizarre.

Hamilton island in North Queensland.

Lots of fun when you arrive. You stand outside undercover with 150 other pax searching for your bag. They are on the carts.

Add New Plymouth to that - they drive the carts into the varandah out the front of the terminal, and you go and pick your bag off them.
It's quite common in New Zealand.

ACI in the Channel Islands I don't think does. Still they biggest they see is a trislander so not a huge problem there!

However I think there are plans in the pipeline to introduce a baggage system.

Pierre, SD didn't have a carosel. They just opened a gate and pushed your bags down onto a shelf. It didn't seem like a major problem though only about 10 bags for my flight.

I visited the tiny airline terminal at Delaware County Airport in Muncie, IN, while I was down there in 1999 to take my MCAT exam.

The terminal had just one gate, one ticket counter (United Express), and I don't think there was much of a baggage claim area (if you could even call it that)! No security checkpoint, either, that I can remember.

The tiny terminal was empty (it must have been after business hours).

Another tiny terminal I have visited is the one at LAF (Purdue University Airport) in Lafayette, IN, when there was one airline serving it--Northwest Airlink--a few years ago. I doubt it even had any baggage claim!

There are none at Bagan, Myanmar (NYU) or for domestic flights at Yangon, Myanmar (RGN).

You give some guy a ticket and he brings the bags to you.

Seems to me that CVO (Corvallis, OR) does not have a baggage claim. But this is only a mostly GA Airport that has only seen very limited air service. Most recently was the now defunct Harbor Air had some sort of service to PDX...

Qualifty "Airport".

I fly in to GBH to work, there's no baggage claim there. Bags are of loaded right onto the ground next to the plane rain, sleet, snow, shine . . . grab your stuff and go.

Ditto about 75% of the airports in Alaska. I could start naming the ones I've been to, and it's scheduled service . . albeit with a Dash-8 or a B1900 or Cessna Caravan . . .

ANI, ENM, FYU, GBH, HNS, HUS, HLA, MBA, AQH, RMP
