Just off the top of my head, it's been going well over a year now. Think they serve Damascus via LHR with a mix of 747SP and A320 aircraft. I don't know how well this route does or if it will last, anyone got further info?

There are photos on 747SP.com of the inside of one of the SPs on this route... A lot of empty seats. Of course, you can't really draw too many conclusions from that... It's one picture from one flight... But the fact that they are also running an A320 on the route would indicate that the SP is probably too much plane.

I seem to recall there is a significant Syrian community in and around Manchester... Hence the need for service...

I think there are another 2 weekly flight operating via LHR - but they may have reduced these.

nice photo. interesting to see an American and a Syrian plane right next to each other, not something you see every day.

It appears to average about 1000 passengers a month; I recollect seeing the LHR-DAM passenger numbers at the start of the service falling by roughly the same amount.

And if we're talking of "interesting" parking at MAN, there's been at least 1 occasion when a MEA aircraft has parked next door to an El Al one.

This started either at the back end of last year or the beginning of this year. I saw flight RB424 on the screens the other day when i dealing with one of my KL flights operating MAN-BEY-DAM.

Probably on its way down to LHR.
When in doubt give it a clout

First photos noted on the database of a regular service seem to start Oct 03. The SP tends to route via LHR.

The main city in Europe that gets nonstop service to Beirut on RB is Brussels. I didn't know they did Manchester / Beirut as well.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

Like Cedarjet says, they only fly from Brussels to Beirut direct.

MEA doesn't fly to MAN but I'm sure there have been such encounters at other airports.

Syrian are still operating their two aircraft - YK-AHA / HB. The only other possible example I can think of would be Iran Air. They still operate an -SP and a -100, in addition to a small number of -200s. The last time I saw Iran Air at LHR, it was an A300-600, but maybe one of our LHR-based a.netters can let us know what IR are flying in these days. I believe IR's -SP's generally serve the far east - ICN, etc.

Bit of a mixture...747s and A300s mainly. Haven't seen a 74L for a while now.

Other regular 74Ls at LHR are mainly UAE based VIP versions. Otherwise, they have all gone Sad

It was back in the mid-1980s and the MEA was on a sub-charter for Inter European operting LCA-MAN-LCA I believe; something to do with a 747 being able to do a round trip without picking up fuel I think.

First time I saw a SYR A320 at MAN was around 2001/2002 when it was doing a Hadj "charter".
