CX Orders 2 More 773ER

Fri Jun 02, 2006 2:39 am

Pardon me if this has already been reported but Reuters is reporting CX has ordered 2 more 773ER's taking their firm orders to 18 and their purchase rights to 18. Looks like they're pretty pleased with what they're seeing performance wise.

SEATTLE, June 01, 2006 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and Cathay Pacific Airways have signed an agreement for the purchase of two additional Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) jetliners, exercising existing purchase rights and bringing the airline's total 777-300ER commitment to 18 airplanes over the past six months.

Cathay Pacific ordered 12 777-300ERs from Boeing in December 2005, as well as four additional airplanes from International Lease Finance Company.

Cathay Pacific plans to take delivery of the two new 777-300ERs in 2008. The airplanes are valued at approximately $500 million at list prices, and will be powered by General Electric GE 90-115B engines, the world's largest and most powerful commercial jet engine.

I flew on a CX Boeing 773-367 (B-HNM) on May 23, 2006 from BKK-HKG and then HKG-TPE. I was really impressed with the 773. Really powerful engines, quiet inside the cabin and a very confortable ride. The coach seats were well designed and confortable. The coach seats on CX's A-330's were hard as rocks. The CX 773's have an outside video camera below the plane which you can watch on Channel 49 of the IFE system. I really enjoyed watching the camera views during takeoff and landing and when we were flying into and above the clouds. I noticed that the captain turned it off before we landed in TPE, hmmmm.......
I'm leavin on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again....
