Etihad Airways A340-500 Destinations

Fri Jun 02, 2006 5:52 pm

Browsing the schedules, I can see that Etihad Airways will be using its new A340-500s starting in July to London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Frankfurt and starting in August to Beirut and Jeddah.

These 5 destinations are the only ones I have been able to spot that will be served by the A340-500.

I'm a bit surprised, as none of these destinations fully utilize the A340-500's long range capability.

What are Etihad Airways' future plans for these planes? What interior configuration will they have?

Perhaps to the US? Usually new aircraft to an airline get put on shorter routes for "proving" then they get put on longer routes. (JAL 777-300ER's come to mind). They'll be flying them ultra longhaul in a few months. Maybe compete with Emirates on some routes (ie JFK, SYD).

Isn't EY planning to start YYZ and JFK? When is this happening and what aircraft are they going to be flying on those routes?

EY already serves YYZ 3x weekly on A330-200s via BRU. Perhaps in the future they will make it non-stop with A345s though.

They do plan on launching non-stop JFK service with them, but I don't know when.

The schedules are showing daily A330-200 for MUC in October and onwards.

I thought it was going to be EWR not JFK?

That's true, but the MUC schedule update e-mail service also says A340 (the A345 I guess), however from September.
Exceptions confirm the rule.

At first, expect to see the A345s at KHI, MCT, BEY and CAI. Then for a while they will be going to LHR and CDG. Also, they are currently scheduled into CMN in September. After that, it should be the start of services to JFK, and hopefully the likes of SYD will follow.

They are in a F12 J28 Y200 configuration. This will be the first glimpse of the new Diamond Zone (F) product, which will follow on the new 3-zone A330-200s towards the end of the year.

why is JFK now being flown to and not EWR which was stated in their application to US DOT last July.

I wonder how they will get SYD rights that too on a daily basis when QF is a strong opponent of such airlines expanding to Australia and stealing their UK and EU traffic.

thanks for this info.

btw any more info on their USA plans i.e. future destinations after NYC?

also any updates on how YYZ flights are doing?

With full flights on the routes to BKK, CGK and MNL, which are not F-Class routes, there is no need for it. They are fine in their J28 Y350 configuration. BKK will soon be double-daily too.

UK_Dispatcher,

cheers for the info again ...
any chance for seeing the A345 to MAN ? at the end of this year ? is the J class going to be identical to the B77W's ?

on another note , how is the MAN route doing ? are they deploying their own two class config A330's ? or the leased ones .

much appreciated .

No plans for the A345 into MAN. Pearl Zone will be the same as the B77W and newer A332s. It is the latest A332s ( J22 Y240 ) which serve the MAN route. Not sure about loads - haven't checked for a while.

I don't know about NYC, but they already fly AUH-YYZ through BRU. But if you mean nonstop service to YYZ, then I wonder how their application for the route authority is doing. Wasn't there some talks about a nonstop AUH-YYZ being delayed pending a new bilateral between Canada and the UAE?

if EY will send their new 345's to FRA it would be very nice visitor for months like the new T7 was. In comparison only EK sends sometimes the 345 to FRA.

btw how many have they ordered and how many are -600s?

Cheers

4 A345s and 4 A346s are firm ordered. In an interview our previous CEO hinted the A346s were intended for South America. The A345 is planned for JFK and later SYD.

The new Diamond Class is amazing. On the lines of Emirates but nicer in my opinion with a spacious lounge. You may well see Diamond on the B77W, note Boeing has 20 unidentified B777 orders, maybe some or all heading this way.

Hey Ejazz...

Interesting hints there!!!! Would be great to see a bigger 77W fleet - but I am likely heading for the all-Airbus turf, probably before another 77W is delivered Sad

Today I heard that the A340-500 will definitly NOT used on the AUH-FRA flight. A6-EYC, their A340-300, will operate on this route for the whole summer schedule except tuesday's (A330).

what a bummer  Sad

I hope my informant is correct - I am night shift myself tonight, so I can deal with it first hand  Silly

I did receive some information from Etihad about the A345 in their newsletter (free sign up on their webpage)....

Excerpt from their newsletter...

Quote:
Next at Etihad: the A340-500
Less than a week from now, the Etihad fleet will boast one more stylish new aircraft: the Airbus A340-500, which promises to set new standards of luxury in the Diamond Zone.

Featuring a 1-2-1 configuration, 80-inch seat pitch and fully flat beds, the Diamond Zone offers enough reason and space to relax or conduct business. Each seat also has a 23-inch personal video screen (the largest in the industry), individual wardrobe, baggage space and mini-bar. The seats rotate 180 degrees, creating the perfect ambience for a dinner or a business meeting. Guests can also relax in the snug atmosphere of the Diamond Zone lounge.

I like the sound of the 23" TV screen... Sounds like an awesome cabin...

Guys,

Any definete word on where the 343 will be headed in mid-august time when I guess there should be 2 or 3 of the 345s delivered? I checked their website and FRA is down as a 345 at that time.

And A6-EHA, delayed, arrived early this morning at 2:51am local time... Pity it did not arrive during daylight hours, although I suspect there will be a press flight...

@ Henry, I have heard nothing more than that the A343 will become a 'backup' aircraft when the fleet grows as the new-builds enter service...
