Iberia Recent Upgrades To FRA?

Sun Jun 04, 2006 2:11 pm

I have noticed that in the past weeks Iberia has been sending A340-300s and A340-600s on the MAD-FRA-MAD route. Does this upgrade have to do with the FIFA World Cup, or is just because of high loads?

It's very likely those are flights for the World Cup. I highly doubt regular service to FRA would ever demand for an IB widebody, so the only logical conclusion is that this has to do with the World Cup.

Maybe there were some important trade fairs in Frankfurt.

Well, the major reason is NOT the FIFA world cup; they ar using the A340 every sunday-morning now until the end of the summer schedule due to high cargo loads which were formerly transported with a Cygnus DC8 on an IB-cargo flight into FRA; one of formerly three weekly IB-cargo flights has been cancelled and the cargo now goes on this A340-sunday-rotation;
nonetheless there will be some additional A340-rotations during June that are related to the world cup, also 321´s and 757´s planned due to increased demand.
