Lufthansa Will Have 2 Daily Flights To DFW?

Sun Jun 04, 2006 4:03 pm

Lufhtansa will have 2 daily flights to DFW this winter.
I just looked it up on Amadeus and it shows 2 LH nonstops from FRA to DFW.

Dallas is a fast growing business area, but I'm surprised it is the LH and not the AA that added the second nonstop flight to DFW

I'm seeing A340-300 for both flights, they are only like 40 minutes apart.

That must be one hell of an O&D market for LH...a Star Alliance carrier with two flights a day to a OneWorld hub.

The only other similar situation I can think of is London-Denver on British Airways, but they have always had a very large U.S. presence.

How many flights a day will that make DFW-FRA?

That would make it 3. AA also has one nonstop per day.
LH loads have been very high on FRA-DFW segment, especially in the winter.
In addition to the business traffic, a large number of Indians go back home in the winter.
I've been to a couple of the LH flights from FRA to DFW in January and the flights were fully booked.

I'm surprised AA didn't add a second flight there

I'm only seeing one daily A343 in the computer reservations systems with flight numbers LH438/439 FRA-DFW-FRA. Also, the LH timetable is also showing only one daily flight.

What are the flight numbers? I could only find one flight (LH438 - FRA-DFW) looking in the winter (after Oct 29) timetable (checking with Sabre and also www.Lufthansa.com ). Maybe they only loaded the schedule into Amadeus so far.

Why are these flights timed only 40 minutes apart?

Wouldn't it make more sense to have two flights with a couple of hours in between instead of having two at basically the same time?

Or maybe one flight to FRA and one to MUC?
Its all about supply and demand...

Lufthansa is the only airline that offers seamless single connections to nearly every city in Europe not served with a non-stop by AA (BA offers fairly limited connectivity through LGW). However, I would tend to believe that the flight would be upgraded to a 744 before they go double daily.

My guess is that its nothing more than a schedule change, and the system is showing both the new and old timings of the same flight.......soemtimes that happens, especially over weekends when systems are updating.

The situation is further confused by code share operations, the operating carrier updates its schedule and it sometimes takes a while for the code-share partners to coordinate their schedules and systems.

As headwinds are stronger during the summer months, the flight arrives a little later, and hence has a later departure time from DFW, usually around 16:30. In the winter it usually leaves at 15:25 or 15:40, but recently as late as 15:55. As Dutchjet has pointed out this is just a change in schedule and the systems have not yet fully syncronized.

When I flew into DFW from EWR i watched a LH A330 take off and that was the only one i saw from them. I'm wondering if I saw the last flight out from them or not?

I think the chances of a double daily LH flight DFW-FRA are close to 0. Must be a system error.

No question. As someone else mentioned, they would upgrade (744, 346) before they would add a 2nd freq. From what I understand loads on the 333/343 are not that great anyway..

Hi Dallasnewark,

regarding your question, I have checked in Worldspan and it is clear whats going on. The thing is that LH chenged times and the US and SK flights you have in Amadeus are not yet changed. It takes some time untill Code Share flights will be changed as well.
As you can see below, the UA flight UA8865 is operated by Lufthansa
1 UA 8865C 09NOV DFWFRA SS1 1555 0835 #1/O $ E
OPERATED BY DEUTSCHE LUFTHANSA AG
if you check LH availability you get following:
*** LUFTHANSA AIRLINES ***
09NOV-TH DFW FRA ** **
11 LH 439 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 DFWFRA 1630 0915 #1 343 0
V9 W9 S0
12*LH9317 F4 A4 C4 D4 Z4 Y4 B4 M4 DFWORD 1225 1448 735 0
H4 Q4 V4 W4 S4
13 LH 431 F3 A3 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 FRA 1600 0725 #1 343 0
H9 Q9 V2 W2 S2
So you only get 1 Nonstop Service by Lufthansa from DFW to FRA with an A340-300.
I guess the schedules are not already sincronized with LH the operating carrier.
Hope that helps you.
Greetings
Alex

Wrong. LH is the ONE foreign airline that does very well at DFW, and has historically done well for more than two decades. Korean does OK, and BA not so OK.

As for the possibility of two flights to DFW? Er, NO!

LH uses a A340 in the summer and A330 in the winter with times that are just slightly different by a hour or so. Sometimes over the Christmas or New Year's holidays the flights are cancelled for low number of passengers.

LH does so well at DFW overall because of the great connectivity at FRA to Asia, Africa and intra-Europe. BA, with its LGW issue does not have the same connectivity.

I dropped my mother off at DFW this weekend on her summer sojourn to India, and the terminal was packed! Summer is great for LH at DFW, as many families visit relatives in India.

This may be what I was understanding. I had seen somewhere that overall loads were just OK in both cabins, it might be around the holidays.

I know AA does very well on DFW-FRA with all cabins running close to full year-round on the 777. I would think if they could get another favorable slot at FRA they could possibly run a 2nd freq with a 767-300. Where they would get the airframe is another story entirely...

why would LH do something so silly? It might make much more sense to wait until they have the 380s and then operate a single daily flight, if they actually believe there's that much traffic volume on this sector.

Is LH still considering adding a PrivatAir flight to IAH?

I hadn't heard that LH was considering adding a PrivatAir flight to IAH. They serve IAH daily from Frankfurt on a 343.

KLM added a 6 times per week privatair flight in addition to their daily 74M to Amsterdam. Is that what you were thinking of?

Actually there was a rumour on the IAH Spotters Club from a UA employee based at IAH, who heard that LH was looking at starting an additional flight via a PrivatAir Airbus. Again this is only a rumour with no hard evidence of any validity to said rumour.
