Will AA Bring Back STL-CUN/PVR?

Mon Jun 05, 2006 2:27 am

I just wondering if AA will reinstate service to CUN and resume seasonal service to PVR. I don't know how the PVR route did last year but it looked like it was doing well by the seat map/price. Any information would be appreciated. I also thought that they would have brought back CUN service by now. Also, a side note AA will upgrade SEA/SFO to 2 daily 757's in Sept.

SEA and SFO are BOTH 2daily 757's? WOW! Looking at the map they are ex TWA 757's too.

I didn't realize they were ex TWA aircraft. That's cool. STL will now have 13 daily 757 flights from AA in the fall schedule.

I too have wondered why CUN isn't back yet. Wasn't this a really popular flight in the past? I thought I had heard a while back that it was supposed to be back sometime this year, but I cannot remember exactly when. I am wondering as well if PVR will be back next winter, at least the loads looked good on those flights.

I guess AA's only international service from STL at the moment is YYZ?

Do AA do STL-SJU?

No AA does not serve YYZ, it is served by Air Canada/Jazz.

Not for a long time.

Currently there are no intl flights being offered by AA at STL but there are from F9(CUN), and USA3000 and Champion Air.

Its a bit of a shame that AA have a hub at STL but cant even offer an Eagle or Connection service to Canada or a weekend flight to Mexico. Especially when compared to the likes of US's PIT focus city which YYZ and CUN flights I believe

Im surprised AA dont run STL-SJU between two of their hubs. Or is there just not much demand from STL to the Carribbean?

St. Louis to San Juan stuck around as a twice weekly flight for about 6 months after the cuts. From what I gathered, the flight generally sold okay but at rock bottom prices, hence its gone.

Cancun should come back at some point in time. At one point, it was operated three times weekly (S, Su, W) so I am having a hard time imagining it won't come back.

The 757's on SEA and SFO aren't real surprising given the flight time and above average premium traffic.

I don't see those changes in the latest schedule from 5/27. What are you getting that I'm not? I still see MD-80's thru the end of the year.

Also, on a somewhat related note STL will see a schedule reduction from the current level of 205 to 178 per the Oct 29 schedule. Whether or not some of those flights come back remains to be seen...

The routes become all 757's Sept 6th. Pretend to book a flight at AA.com to SEA/SFO choose Sept 6th and any return date and you will see it in the bookable schedule.

I don't know where you got 178 but they will actually be at around 198. Maybe a Saturday or Sunday schedule? The drop is due to American Connection (Trans State) for dropping its J41's.

Does the AA Concourse C even have the capability to support Customs & Immigration anymore? I thought that that area was being renovated and changed the last time I was through Lambert. If they would need to arrive way over near the junction of D and the East Terminal that would make connecting an issue and probably increase the cost.

That's what happens when you are up for days at a time waiting for a flight out of Kuwait, you click on the wrong day. Clicked Sunday the 5th instead of Monday the 6th...  crazy

Does this also coincide with the COU/JLN service being discontinued??

No, I was using AA Timetable and those routes are still loaded in the scedule. So subtract 5 flights to 193.

PIT-MBJ has been dropped. USA 3000, as far as I know, doesn't fly to SXM.

It's a seasonal flight, and about the USA 3000 look at the website's route map.

Yeah it's seasonal and isn't operating right now. As for USA 3000, the only international destinations on the route map are Punta Cana, Aruba, and Cancun! They also show Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, however, from PIT you can only book the following:

PIT-Aruba
PIT-Cancun
PIT-RSW
PIT-Punta Cana
PIT-St. Petersburg

The PVR and Cancun flights depart and arrive over at the E-30 gates, along with the USA3000, Champion, and other charter flights. I'm sure that the few connecting passengers would be simply thrilled to arrive a couple football fields away from their gate with no people movers. I will be flying to VPS (thru DFW) on the 29th and I will take some pictures of the concourse improvements etc.

A St Louis and AA topic turned into a PIT topic, about normal I guess.

I was thinking the same thing

As far as CUN and PVR goes I think a lot of their return will be determined by the prenegotiated tour packages AA is able/willing to close with the travel agencies. Since F9 is dropping their CUN service till November it does not seem demand from August to Nov is all that heavy. As mentioned above a lot of this is still because of the hurricane damage. I am interested to see if SRQ comes back as a seasonal route as well.

And to further derail this thread, there was some interesting diversions last night because of the storms in STL. Off the top of my head AA 768 LAX to STL was diverted to PIA, DAL to STL diverted to PIA, AE JFK to STL diverted to CMI, CO IAH-STL diverted to MCI just a few I noticed. Also I feel for the folks on AA 1716 LAX-STL normal arrival around 10:30pm got in at 2:00+ AM. I am sure the ground staff were thrilled sticking around till their 2:00AM arrival.--rough traveling last night.

I never understood why they closed down Customs and Immigration in C. It's not the biggest or the best around but it suited AA's needs nicely with 4 or 5 gates compatible for International operations, and could have accomodated the USA3000, Champion, and Frontier flights as well.

I was at STL for the first time in three years this past week but unfortunately did not have any time to walk the concourses. However I did check out A since I was leaving on NW to MEM yesterday and in spite of the new carpet it still looks a bit of a mess, especially the United gates at the western end. They still have the 80's vintage "UNITED" sign on one of the walls in the gate area. They have not done any cosmetic improvements in this area at all.

On an STL related note, runway 11 was getting an extensive workout yesterday (Saturday). I witnessed five arrivals and one departure (UA 737-500). In fact, in the short time I was there all three runways (11, 12R, 12L) were handling arrivals with primary departures on 12L.
