CRJ 900X

Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:19 pm

Just heard on Montreal radio that the crj900x is a go. Supposed to be launched today, apparently same GE engines to power it. Waiting for official announcement on Bombardier site.

Is this jet going to be based on the same design as the CRJ200/700/900 or will it look more like the Embraer ERJ series with engines on the wings?

As a Canadian I would dearly love to see Bombardier bounce back and continue to build quality aerospace products. However and a Canadian I also don't see this happening, as our country seems destined to shoot itself in the foot whenever the aerospace industry is concerned. Mr. Harper's government will never back it, and for some reason it feels like the Canadian public likes to see our best companies fail.

HOWEVER, I will be the first and loudest to applaud when and if this wonderful thing happens and I can fly on a modern, innovative and advanced Canadian jet airliner.

P-
oh please let there never be cell phones in airliners...

Basically a stretch of the 900.

Isn't the 900 already a strecth of the 700? And the 700 a stretch of the 200? Big grin I mean, how much more can they stretch this design?!

I do remember once seeing a Bombardier regional jet concept with the engines hanging of the wings. Which model was that?

Did the radio report sound real, as in a proper news release from BBD?

So far on the BBD.com news site there is only a story about securing a rail contract, dated June 6... so far, though  Smile

Some airline must be in a hurry if they can't wait until Farnborough...

That was the C Series which has been on the shelf for a couple months now. That program was designed for 100-130 passengers.

Thanks, Boeing Nut!

I was now finally able to find a few articles on the concept. Too bad it was scrapped.

One of the reports quotes Bombardier:

Quote:
The company wants to pick up where illustrious names such as British Aerospace, McDonnell Douglas and Fokker left off by producing an “optimized” aircraft at the “lower end of the 100- to 150-passenger market.” It would replace designs like the BAe 146, DC-9/MD-80, and F70 and F100, and others such as the Boeing 737-100/200/300/400/500 that will be retired by 2010. About 3,900 examples of these types remain in service “without a suitable replacement,”

I wonder why did they decide this isn't true anymore?

Such a cool looking plane...

Still nothing, eh?

Was the report a hoax or just the result of some blabbermouth saying something to a reporter that he or she shouldn't have said yet?

After a few days of waiting, I found that the announcement of the other day was a vp of bbd announcing that the assembly site would be at the Mirabel plant north of Montreal where the existing, crj700,900 are being assembled presently. Further to this is that the airframe would retain the same engine existing on the -900, and that the wing would be increased with winglet extensions, eight percent. All very brief, but I imagine the official go will be at Farnborough. The rumour at the shop is that the first plugs have already been joined and that a complete plane should be assembled soon. But as anyone knows, rumours will be rumours until they come to fruition.

Only winglets to be extended, not wingtips? How much can they stretch the fuselage with the same wing... 3 frames max?

I'm very glad to hear that there might be one more CRJ...  Smile I hope they call this one CRJ905... that's nine-ooo-fiiive, baby!  Wink
