B6 Begins Selling JFK-AUA

Wed Jun 07, 2006 4:41 am

B6 has begun selling JFK-AUA with fares from $99 one-way thru $399 one-way. Here's the schedule:

JFK 8:10am
AUA 1:50pm

AUA 2:50pm
JFK 6:35pm

Nice to see these flights aren't red-eyes!

B6 has not yet received approval from the government. Perhaps it is expected within the next few weeks?

If AUA wasn't a kind of high-end leisure destination, maybe a B6 red-eyed could have suited them better.
My guess for that awesome schedule is that since AUA does have a U.S. Port of Entry Facility, B6 doesn't need to schedule the New York arrival when JFK Port of Entry has less use (check STI flights arrival times).

jetBlue began selling seats to Bermuda as well before the government approved the service. They'll most likely be granted the approval to fly the route and thus selling seats before shows jetBlue's eagerness to boost the tourism there. In addition, this will help advance ticket sales for those who plan early.

Does anyone know what ever happened with the request to fly JFK-CUN?

I head the government of Mexico was waiting until the area had been rebuilt. Due to all the Hurricanes last year CUN took a hit, so the government doesn't want to allow service until things are looking good again.

Are you saying that there is no service into the area right now?

Umm...no.

The DOT is taking a while to decide, as they always do. As if a government doesn't want to new air service that stimulates tourisim.

How long does it typically take? If I remember correctly, both B6 and DL filed their requests in September 2005.

As for BDA and now AUA, it looks like it's only a matter of a couple of weeks before service is approved. But then again, there is no agreement in these countries over how many airlines can fly on certain routes...

The DOT hasn't even looked at the route yet as I've heard. They will probably make a decision hopefully this summer.

Great news about AUA, can't wait until it starts!

Well, I've heard nothing about the DOT in this issue. What I've heard as a B6 employee...is Mexico is waiting until the area regrows and can support new tourism after hurricane damages. (as a related side note, did you notice less advertisement for Cancun this spring...the area took a hit and isn't the beautiful beaches it once was)

So unless another B6 employee has head anything else I didn't, that's what I've been told about CUN.
