Second 767 For MX

Sat Jun 10, 2006 8:54 pm

Soon MX will add to it´s fleet their second 767, so this means the A330´s are discarted for a while.

The "new" 767 will be N957PG B767-3P6ER, MSN24349, now flying with LAB.

I'm assuming this new plane will ensure flights to EZE don't have eventualities in case of major maintenance to the other aircraft.

Is MX planning on adding another longrange destination or are they going to use it on flights to their most popular destinations in the US?

When is it starting to fly with MX?

Ex PT-TAM and CN-2426, LN was 244 and was delivered on November 28, 1988. It's going to be 18 years old, and under Gulf Air and LAB control... Sounds like MX is really going for the cheapest they can find! But would this be the wisest?

You beat me to post this!!! Indeed... aircraft is already @ MEX receiving full house mx!!! Apparently too, MXB will stay a little longer... most probably and hopefully they reinforce EZE and increase it to 7X. Perhaps a new long haul destination might also be started... SCL, GRU and GIG come to my mind.. (no limits on airlines and frequencies as longs as both national civil aviation authorities authorized it).... or other will be reinforcing USA and Canada operations.

Sure is going the cheapest, perhaps not the right way but we need more widebodies (not for pleasure and pride or whatever, but we sure need to be more aggresive against US, Canadian, European and some Latam carriers) if LA (even with all it's division) will get to a strong fleet of +-30 B767s I don't see why MX and AM can at least have a mix of 15 widebodies... remember too not long ago, exactly 12 years ago, between MX, AM, GD, Latur, AeroCancun we had 18 widebodies at the same time. At least this 67 is not the one who suffered the hard landing.

OTOH, I read this week, SOON, AEROMEXICO'S BOEING 787 DEAL will be disclosed!!!

Depends on the general condition of the plane, but it can be a real headache because of maintenance and the cost will get sky high.

Interesting news. I guess MX will configure the plane exactly like the ex-SK one (MXB), right? I hope MX will upgrade EZE to daily. Let us know more info about the new plane, the proposed routes and, especially Ghost, the AM 787 plans.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

That's precisely what I thought. How trustworthy could that 767 be? Hopefully is an aircraft for a year or two before something good comes!

Excellent news Mijo! The 787 looks just well for Aeromexico! They could expand without adding too much capacity!

By the way, has the lease agreement for MXB been extended?

I hope so too, my friend, but that may only happen after the austral springtime begins in late September / early October.

I hope they were wise enough to get a plane with low cycles, which they probably did.

Okay, guys, for what it's worth, I totally disagree.

No 767-300ER is "the cheapest" anyone can find. The fact is that the demand for these aircraft as passenger planes is huge, and it's a lessor's/seller's market right now. ATA is STILL looking for several at an affordable price. The fact that Pegasus Leasing bought this aircraft and is leasing it to MX also shows that investors think that these airframes have a good deal of life left in them. In several years, as the 787s start to come on-line, these will start to move to Third World carriers as passenger planes and to big cargo carriers as freight conversions, but for now the market is extremely tight. Far from paying "the cheapest", I think MX probably is paying a premium lease rate on this aircraft.

As to its service history, 18 years is not very old for an airframe like this, and Gulf Air is certainly a fine carrier with a good maintenance reputation. 767-300s, even of this vintage, have very good dispatch reliability in general, so I don't really see the problem. TransBrazil and LAB...you guys know better than I. However, the bottom line is that the thing is now registered in the US, with an "N" registration, owned by a major US leasing company, and will have been well-checked before purchase and before being leased to MX. So I think it should be fine.

Hmm still uncertain! But I think it should be wise to reconfigure it with at least 20 more seats. IIRC, LB in two clases had something near to 240 seats! Perhaps MX is going for the 200. Also, as this new B763ER's gets home, XA-TRA is leaving... less and less 57's... AM has also stopped N806AM and XA-RVZ is also on its way out.

I hope that too, still nothing up for the next months but sure sooner or later we will know more about this issue! As for AM's B787's here's a little more detailed information:

Despite it's old age, this frame was STD for nearly 3 years. And as soon as LB took it, it sure wasn't flown as APB or many B763s worldwide. Gulf Air has beautiful mx records, I can't say the same for TransBrasil, as for LB... Mexicana at MEX was in charge of several mx services.

On a side note, here's a very interesting link of a few words coming from CEO Romano:

http://www.flightglobal.com/Articles...97/Emilio+Romano+Finally+free.html

...but Romano is also eyeing the long haul. He never mentions Europe, but “five years from now I would see Mexicana flying to Asia – not only China – but other markets in Asia...

Ok, a little update!!! The two former LB B767-300ER's which were STD since last May and taken away from LB by Pegasus are coming home to MX. These two frames will replace TRA and MXB respectively. MXB will be stopped sometime next November and returned in December of 2006. MX will reconfigure these two birds and hopefully they'll have less mx problems than the once they faced with the poor maintained SK bird!!!

Is Mexicana considering fitting the new 767's with what seems to be now standard technology for a real world class airlines such as ife's, avod's, lie flat pod seats in C. etc?

Quoting Ghost77 (Reply 13):

When you mentioned that the "new" planes could have 20 more seats that will be by reducing the pitch in Y or in C, or reducing the number of C seats ? or both?

Good News for MX...hopefully they will sort out their long-haul aircraft issues soon with a nice order for some new frames. I call Airbus on this one, but I give Boeing a shot since this order will be made by the 'new' owners!!!!!!

Cheers

Yes great news for Mexicana. Three years ago I tought MX would get 5 or 6 second hand 767s, and launch some international routes. I still hope this happens.

Finally they will be free to configure the B767's with the number of seats in J and Y that the market requires, not like MXB, which most of the times left with half of Ejecutiva seats as upgrades.
