Anyone Flown QF25/QF26? Comments?

Mon Jun 12, 2006 12:49 pm

I was looking into award travel to OZ in 2007 and saw these two flights stop in AKL and continue to MEL. Is the equipment B744 or B743? Is F offered on these flights? Thanks,

I did the LAX-AKL flight last yr. Very comfortable, but no F class is offered (well it wasn't last yr). It was one of the last sectors on the Qantas routing to have the new Skybeds installed, so my LAX-AKL flight had the old style business seat, but the return aircraft had the new Skybeds. It was a B747-400 aircraft, and I don't think the 300 goes to LAX anymore at all.(unless there are tech issues)
The aircraft I was on use to go LAX-Auckland-Brisbane, but that routing has now changed, so some things maybe a bit different if it now goes onto MEL.

The Qantas website is pretty good for checking out what is available etc.

Hope the above helps
Aircraft I've flown: A300/A310/A320/A321/A330/A340/B727/B732/B733/B734/B735/B738/B741/B742/B744/DC10/MD80/IL62/Bae146/AR

Flights from AKL to LAX don't offer first class only biz. QF only operates 2 class configuration on route. But I think that might change because of NZ and product it has now on the AKL - LAX route (correct me if I'm wrong)

The 743's still run to LAX from time to time, like right now some flights are 743's!

The reason it was one of the last routes to get Skybed was because it is a 2 class route. All 3 class aircraft were upgraded first.

It may but i'm not sure. QF would then have only SYD-SIN-FRA and BNE-LAX as 2 class 744 routes. Though i'm sure SYD-SIN particularly could do with QF5/6 having F being that all 3 SQ flights to SYD are 3 class, i no QF have QF31/32 which is 3 class. BNE-LAX well you never no.

I do the AKL-LAX, LAX-AKL flight a bit. Great flight, good food nice flight attendants!
Last time I flew it was in November and the end of January.
All the 744 have the Skybeds... which are really nice! REALLY!!! I would try to get seat 11A (its up stairs bulk head... you can't put stuff under seats in biz anywhere so that doesn't matter, but you have more room, you still have a place to put your shoes, being up stairs is quieter and its really nice because you get to have a side bin by the window to put stuff in!!! BUT the BEST part of all is with the bulk head you get the T.V. that comes out of the armrest.)

AVOD should (I’m going to say that yes it will be… but don’t quote me Wink) be installed by then and you would get 60 channels... very nice indeed!
Also by then there will not be any 747-300 flying that route, my brother got stuck on one the other month, that was because of a plane change, but this happens very rare, and by then shouldn’t happen.

The flight use to go on to Brisbane, but now Qantas says it goes to MEL
hopes this helps... if you need any more info please don't hesitate to contact me!

here is a link to my trip report of this route... with pics, there are two reports on there, so scroll down to get the other one: AS/QF ANC-LAX Biz/first Class (by Alaskaqantas Mar 7 2006 in Trip Reports)

it was my first report and I could have done better... like, it says on the topic ANC-LAX instead of ANC-AKL hahahaha, oppps. well its pretty good.
ENJOY qantas and make sure to write a report on your travels with pics!
to some people the sky is the limit, to aviation enthusiasts, its home!

Yes MEL-AKL-LAX, it used to be BNE-AKL-LAX but there was less market for thru pax on that flight and it was a pretty significant dogleg.
744 operate the service whenever possible and in a 2 class configuration (QF 3 class aircraft operate the Kangaroo Route via Asia to London etc).
When a 744 is out of service it is often replaced by a 2 class 743 (as is currently the case this past week) or with a 3 class 744 being the 3rd choice. All 744's have now been refited.
All QF 747s operate with 31" seat pitch in Economy.
56 types. 38 countries. 24 airlines.
