Continental MCO-SAN

Tue Jun 13, 2006 6:19 am

Hello,

My aunt invited me to San Diego for a nice vacation. At the time I looked Continental had the best fares. Since I havent flown on them, I decided to give it a shot sice these a/c were new to me. Here is my itinerary:

Day: Date: Flt: Depart: Arrive: A/C Seat

Mon Jun 19 CO 1087 MCO 0655 IAH 0814 757-300 17B
CO 509 IAH 1025 SAN 1139 737-800 15C

My layover is in Houston both times. I dont know my way around and would like tips for spotting and places to eat. Note: I like subs.

Sun Jun 25 CO 1588 SAN 1242 IAH 1759 737-800 24C
CO 1486 IAH 2105 MCO 0021 757-300 31C

Im used to flying US, so I'm looking forward to flying CO. Is CO's service similar or better? Last time US gave me a pillow. It says snack for all flights but 1486. I dont mind that. i look forward to flying CO.

A good spot for spotting would be the area where you board the tram for Terminal B from Terminal C (just before the North Concourse), at the top of the escalator. It's still inside security. No seats, but you can see take offs, landings and ground movement.

The food court in Terminal E is pretty decent. A sports bar, Pappadeaux's, pizza, Chinese. etc.. Also, there is a Subway in Terminal C (I forget if it's the North or South end).

I hope you like your flights and hope you have an excellent time.

Thanks. I have a question to ask. I notice 1087 used to be a 752. Is this seasonal change to 753? Oh, is their upgrades available? I'm currently a US Platinium member, but will switch if the service blows me away.

My first topic started.

In my opinion COs service is better than US. The 753s have a little extra pitch in Y compaired to the 752s in the fleet. It looks like you will miss most of the euro bound heavies but you may spot a BA777, Privatair BBJ, AF330, CI343, PK74M or 777. Definately check out Pappadeuxs if you want to splurge. Of note there is the forgotten underground train at IAH too--but its not in the secure area. Hope you enjoy my home airport and my favorite airline.

I'm sure that you will have a great time aboard CO. They are an excellent airline and have excellent service. I haven't flown CO in about a year, but my friend flew them not to long ago and said that their excellent service has not changed.

As for food:

Terminal C: Smoothie King, Bubba's, CC Express, Fit & Fun Yogurt, Harlon's BBQ, Pizza Inn Express, Popcorn Express, Popeyes Chicken, Starbucks Coffee, Subway (In the North end), Taco Bell, The Grove, Pizza Hut Express, Primo's, and Wendy's.

Terminal E: My computer won't load Terminal E's layout for some reason...

Anyways, hope you have a great flight on CO! Looking forward to reading your Trip Report.

Terminal E has chinese, italian+pizza, mexican, BBQ, "cafe" food, ice cream, coffee, a sit down cajun place and a sports bar.

you'll be there for 3 hours at dinner on the way back, so you can basically go to any terminal. B has a chilis, pizzeria uno, others, C has BBQ, wendy's, taco bell (IIRC), papa johns (replaced pizza inn), popeyes, subway, etc.

if you'd like to be out on the tarmac in a bus, there is a bus shuttle inside security from terminal C to B and A, and they drive you out among the jets. the tram is high off the ground, which also gives a nice view.

you can also leave security and go to the hotel on the underground tram. there is a revolving restaurant on top of it. steaks a seafood and such.

Thanks, I will do Pappadeaux's. It sounds good. IAH might become my favorite airport to go to. As far as trip reports do, do I need any special phto shop? I use Zoom Browser EX.

I'll take phtos and try to post them as I will have a new Nikon.

Thanks for the info and when I get a chance EWRCabincrew, JetBlueAUS, TWA902fly will be added to RU list. Drerx7 will also be added. Thank you.

Howdy, and welcome to my favorite airline.
I think that Conti's service is a bit better than US's. Their narrowbody fleet is the nicest among the majors, in my opinion.

Snack usually means a chicken sandwich... lucky you. They're pretty good.

I enjoy connecting at Bush, particularly when it involves terminal E. Nice, big, new, etc. Food choices in C were always limited, if you ask me. But E has got a lot to choose from.
I will second that person that said spot from the tram. It's cool. There's also some huge windows in E to spot out of. If you had more time in Houston, I'd say leave the airport and go to the Lee Rd. spotting area... Put that on your list.

Have fun, and enjoy Continental. The 753s are great machines.

thanks for all the info. Leaving the airport will be a problem. I will check out those spotting areas in the airport. The food seems great, so I will buy leftovers on purpose.

You will get breakfast on the MCO-IAH flight and lunch on the SAN-IAH flight because they are at what CO defines as "meal times". Also, F upgrades are similar to on US. All elites get unlimited complimentary upgrades space available.

Your flight

Flight 1087 if almost full. Flight 509 has 50 seats empty in coach. Try to get a row or a seat next to you empty.

On the way back, flight 509 is 3/4 full and flight 2105 is half full. Also, 2105 is CoEx (Continental Express - you will leave from Terminal B in Houston).

Again, have fun. Try to get a window seat on the flight to SAN. The approach over Balboa Park is awesome.

2105? Flight 2105 is CO Express that operates IAH-BNA. I think you mean flight 1486, that leaves IAH at 21:05.

blockhead  What an idiot, I am sometimes. Sorry. Your flight 1486 still has quite a few seats on it. It's CO mainline as well.

Sorry for the misinformation...it helps to read it thouroughly first!

Excellent program....Plats get them 5 days out, Gold 3 days out and Silver 24 hours ahead unless marketing has held the seats.....been a long time since I haven't gotten the upgrade but being in the right elite level has helped for sure!

Nah, stay inside security, you can wander all around Terminals B, C, D, and E inside security by using the above ground train! And EWRCabincrew is right on the money, best pics surely at the B and C train boarding areas although I think that you get better viewing at B northside, more action there than on the southside since you can see Runways 8L/R-26R/L.....hard to see 9/27 from the southside as it is offset with the approach end of Runway 9 almost abeam Terminal E, get an airport layout of IAH and you will see what I mean. Enjoy and lets have a great trip report when you return......and have a great time in SAN and aboard the 800, hope you get the winglets and no eyebrows, those are the newest of the new!  Smile
