MUC Again Best Airport In Europe, 3rd Worldwide

Wed Jun 14, 2006 5:17 am

Skytrax has once again named MUC the best airport in Europe, and worldwide it's the 3rd best one, compared to the fourth place last year.

MUC was also named Germany's best airport by Capital, a german finance magazine.

MUC has certainly new and modern facilities. However, I do not like its location. It takes way too long to get from downtown Munich to the airport with the S-Bahns available. Since it doesnt look like a TransRapid track is going to be built, why dont they at least run an express train to the airport? I find it very inconvenient to stop at places like Englherrsching (or however these small villages are called).

Is there a complete listing of all airports in Europe? It would be very interessting for me to see the ranking of Frankfurt or London-Heathrow.
I didn't find it on the above mentioned sites.

I agree, the airport is nice when you connect from one flight to another but certainly not perfect when downtown Munich is your final destination. MUC is in the middle of nowhere and it takes ages with the S-Bahn. It reminds me of MXP, another airport which is great when you connect from one flight to another but it is way too far away from downtown Milan.

MUC is a wonderful airport and T2 is beautiful so it certainly deserves this distinction. That said, it shoud be beautiful, it is one of the most expensive airports worldwide to operate in and out of. As wonderful as the new MUC is, I still wish Reim was around...

I find MUC good for connecting flights. However, there are few airports I've been to where you have to walk sooooooooooooooooooo much. Just go to the rent-a-car area. You've done all the excersize you need for a week!  hyper

But I must admit the design is fascinating!
Who says airports are boring places?!

This is certainly true. In the last months, the discussions here in Bavaria about this issue were unbelievable, with Transrapid NIMBYs and so on.

Well, if T1 was at T2 standard, things would be even better.

BTW, the old airport was/is named Riem.
