North American Airlines Starts JFK-LOS

Wed Jun 14, 2006 7:00 am

NAA starts Lagos on July 17 with 3 weekly flights from New York (JFK), using 767-300ER aircraft.

This should be bigger incentive for US DoT to finally clear Virgin Nigeria US route application....

why would this become an incentive to clear VK for service??

I know we still have the intent on flying EWR-LOS.............

Sweet! Good to see NA expanded scheduled operations. I always think of them in their charter role.

It's very exciting see new direct US-Africa routes. I hope DL does well with Dakar and South Africa. I just wish CO could have gotten LOS off the ground. Perhaps one day NA, VK, and CO will all serve LOS non-stop from various US gateways.  crossfingers

Because it could potentially lead to reciprocity. You could have inferred this, if you're familiar with the recent Nigeria/US/UK air wars! Knowing how the USDoT works, I wouldn't be surprised if DoT denied the VK application outright.
We have got to remember, Virgin Nigeria is settling nicely as the Nigerian flag carrier. As such and as logic dictates, the Nigerian govt. expects the US DoT to clear the VK application. Punto final !

Who is "we"? I presume Continental Airlines. Last time I checked, CO withdrew its application for US-LOS. They simply lost interest, and went to look for other easier markets  Smile

Is that the same reason that Moscow was shelved twice?

I'm presuming the Lagos flight will just be a continuation to the Accra flight and the routig will be JFK-ACC-LOS-ACC-JFK. The aircraft currently spends about 22 hours sitting in Accra during its weekly flight so at least it will be a good use for the aircraft instead of just sitting around.

As for the VK flights, I dont think it will have anything to do with the DOT aproval unless Continental gets the go ahead. That was where the main disagreement came about, not with NAA.

Remember, now, there are already two weekly nonstop JFK-ACC flights, and a weekly BWI-BJL-ACC flight. Take a look at the schedule here: http://www.northamericanair.com/sched.asp Looks like they are getting better utilization than at first.

The LOS service will be (OMG!) *three times a week* each way (That's freakin' hard core!), and from the flight times posted at the bottom of the schedule that I linked to, it looks like they are nonstop.

= NAA's LOS services are nonstop and not linked via ACC.

BWI-LOS? Are you sure, NAA website/press release only mention JFK-LOS 3xweekly.

Good to see North American expanding their scheduled flights and developing niche markets
