(Hartfield, NY, June 14, 2006) - - A plane crash killed a flight instructor and seriously injured her passenger in the Southern Tier Tuesday. It happened as the plane was just taking off from an airport in the Town of Hartfield.
The plane took off just before Noon from the Dart Airport in Chautauqua County - inside, the pilot, a flight instructor and her passenger, a teenage student - but the plane didn't get far from the runway before experiencing engine trouble.
The impact killed the pilot instantly - 36 year old Tracy Dart of Mayville, who flew single engine planes frequently.
Her student, 17 year old Galleger Bobseine of Cattaraugus was airlifted to a hospital in Erie with serious head injuries.
The plane was discovered in a wooded area just west of Lindberg Road near Mayville. Investigators say it's less than a mile from the runway.
The news of the tragedy traveled fast in this small Chautauqua County community.
Mayville resident Sharon Rogers said, "Small planes don't crash very often, so it was quite a surprise and I guess she flies a lot."
Local resident Rod Asel said, "It's been a few years since we've had one over there. It's not something that happens all the time around here."

I feel bad for the family of the instructor, and hope the kid recovers really soon. I'm going to see if I can get down there this weekend and get a few pics for the DB.
