Is EI Suffering On DUB-NYC?

Thu Jun 15, 2006 4:08 am

Since DL started their daily DUB-SNN-JFK service it seems to have very good loads and with the extra daily CO service to EWR and the increasing problems EI have been having with the reliability of their 330s, is this all hitting EI's loads to JFK? Or are all of the services doing well?

What increasing problems does EI have with their 330s exactly?

EI-DUB went tech this week, why i don't know but EI are still down a 330..... well they are down 7 or 8 330's but from their existing fleet they where down a 330 which EI can't afford.

I don't believe this is really causing a problem, CO used to bring in a 764 during the summer into DUB (direct from EWR) if anything they have decreased real service into DUB and only allowed a second option to people flying out.

AA made no real odds last year that EI suffered, in my opinion.... AA and DL have take pax from LHR or CDG flights more then anything else. They have taken some business from EI but not enough to worry the airline.

@ Smokeyrosco

So what you are saying is that EI can´t afford the 330s, did I get it right?

Cheers

EI can't afford NEW 330's (or smiler) they are stretching there existing fleet to max capacity, they have two 330's on order for delivery next year but badly need money (the floatation we are still waiting) in order to finance a new long haul fleet.

EI has just stretched the existing long haul fleet beyond it's means... but that's competition more then anything else.... EI needs to get in a few places before anyone else.

Hope that makes sense.

Think of how much money EI waste to charter a World Airways MD-11 or North American 757....it happens way to often when one of the 330's has tech problems. EI needs at least one extra A330...maybe that could come off of one of the JFK routes? Great Airline, but needs more long haul equipment (Even though they cant afford it)  Smile

I flew EI from Dublin to JFK and their service is a lot nicer than CO or DL.

The fares are very cheap too!
I dont think EI are suffering that badly but EI do have the A330s on routes to the US and Dubai and if one aircraft has a problem the entire system has problems.

EI certainly get maximum use out of the 330's. But i dont think that A330's are made to fly 25min hops back and forth to shannon.  Confused

I dont EI are feeling the competition pinch from DL at the moment as their is never enough capacity on the JFK route from Ireland during the summer period. However, winter could be a different story altogether

EI is doing fine on NYC-DUB. My neighbors fly the route about 5 times a year and more and they always have to go very early to the airport because EI overbooks like crazy and they alwsys go out full so you want to make sure you get on. Though evryone I know that flies that route say EI is kind of pricey we all still fly it becuase when you think Ireland you jsut think of them. Though pricey still well traveled.

CO flies twice daily to Dublin and twice daily to Shannon, two daily 757-200s is more capacity than a 767-400.

EWR-
Dublin 1 daily 757-
Dublin, Shannon 1 daily 757
Shannon 1 daily 757.

CO also flies nonstop from EWR to Belfast which I realize is part of the UK.

Im still waiting for EI to return to EWR, they dropped EWR right after 9-11 and have not returned (yet).

I know, sometimes i see one in queue for the runway while the other is landing... it's an odd but wonderful sight in DUB.

the difference is the 764 used to serve DUB direct without connection to SNN as the 75 always served SNN, the extra 75 serves both DUB and SNN.

The 764's have 235 seats (200Y and 35 Business) the 752's have 172 seats (156Y and 16 Business). If you take the EWR-SNN-DUB-EWR 75 and split it in 2 for each of the Irish destination it's only an extra 23 seats, hardly a huge increase in the grand scheme of things. But I'll hand you your due it is 23 EXTRA seats. I'd still choose a 330 over a 757.

Glad to hear that and that you all like EI. Just a bit surprised that you think they're pricey, I took a random date for a return flight with the 3 airlines and EI was the cheapest: All flights departing NYC July 21st and returning from DUB on August 3rd:

Aer Lingus (Offering 3 flights per day). JFK-DUB
Cheapest fare for selected dates: $672,12

Continental (Offering 2 daily flights). EWR-DUB
Cheaperst fare for selecting dates: $ 746

Delta (Offering 1 daily flight). JFK-DUB
Cheapest fare for selected dates: $1.030,00

Granted, I choose the cheapest offer available, all for Economy (coach), but EI came out as the cheapest. Maybe just the dates I selected, but I've always heard people saying they pick EI for their low fares. Recently flying DUB to TLS (Toulouse) a few weeks ago I was amazed to see the number of French people on the flight who had connected from EI flights from the states (and that meant overnighting in DUB given the early 7am departure to TLS.
Long live Aer Lingus!
