Proper Water Cannon Salute Etiquette......

Thu Jun 15, 2006 9:45 pm

I wanted to ask you fellow airport workers this because I believe I know the proper etiquette when performing one of these salutes, but I believe that our personnel haven't been exposed to the proper procedure because I see different ways it is done.

My belief is that when performing a water salute that the arch should be stationary and the aircraft drives under it. I should not be a "wash down" of the aircraft where the water is moved around and sprayed on the aircraft as if you are hosing it down. Also, the arches should criss-cross over the aircraft and not impact each other.

What is everyone's opinion/description of how they have seen water cannon salutes performed?

Many thanks,
Boeing Nut

every one I've seen has been a stationary arch over the aircraft, not actually hitting the aircraft. I guess the main thing is to not spray it in the engines!!!

I'm not sure about the criss-cross pattern

Boeing Nut you are correct.....friend of mine retired in March, when they were approaching gate they got the salute, had to stop the airplane since they were WOXOF..... Smile Too much water and not even the wipers on high speed helped.

Make sure the cockpit window is closed first!

I can see it now...

Memo to all ground and air staff: Effective Immediately
Re: Water Cannon Salutes

1) Under no circumstances will water be substituted with ARFF foam, gravy from airline chicken, mixed with Tide washing power, bubble bath or gatorade powder.

2) Water cannons are not lawn sprinklers and staff are to refrain dancing underneath them.

3) Audiences are not to be told, "The airplane is crying" when window wipers fail.

4) Due to budget cuts, audience members will be asked to exhale forcefully towards the aircraft when the salute is over to assist in drying.
Release your seat-belts and get out! Leave everything!
