Virgin A340-600 To Feature In New Bond Movie

Thu Jun 15, 2006 11:48 pm

I hear that a film production company will be filming footage for the NEXT James Bond movie (not the one that will be out soon) and have rented a brand new Virgin A340-600 for the purpose. I am also told they will NOT cover up the VS titles as it is a mutual agreement for marketing purposes.

I think you will find that filming has already taken place in Vienna or Prague.

VS and Branson will do anything for a bit of publicity.

Obviously with the Bond movies losing their popularity and now being surpassed by other spy thrillers, Bond had to be downgraded from BA First to VS Upper Class!

Now there's a surprise, another Virgin Atlantic bashing remark from BCAL. Someone ( arrow BCAL) needs to get over it I think.

Cool idea... a Bond movie built around aviation, and with VS to boot.

Now when will VS come back to ORD? I know that Sir Richard Branson has said to the press many times that it's not a matter of if, but when. Personally, I'd love to see more 346s at ORD besides those of LH and IB, as I feel that my fave four-holer may become extinct within a decade due to rising Jet-A prices.  Sad

Back in the 80’s British Airways stared in a bond movie, but can’t remember which one.

Virgin has been in loads of movies! Anyone remember the Wedding Date? Debra Messing (from Will & Grace) worked as a ground agent at New York JFK, at least ten minutes of the movie was onboard a Boeing 747 series 400 (new suite of course)!

Virgin Atlantic also stared in Calendar Girls, once again loads of shots of their older cabin (when the movie was made, the Upper class cabin shown was still one of the best around), on that occasion they used an Airbus A340 series 300.

And let’s not forget the ‘Rebel Billionaire’ – each week another aircraft in Virgin’s fleet was shown!

Its good marketing if that’s what your looking for and also Virgin is as British as James Bond remember  Wink

I do not think so! Virgin is 49% owned by SQ and the remaining 51% by Branson through offshore trusts, so please tell me how they are "as British as James Bond". The last time I saw a Bond movie he was working for the British Secret Service, not part time for Singapore Secret Service or a West Indian country's Secret Service!

It is a british airline, with british registered planes, and is quoted as a british company at companies house in the uk.

Why does every threat about Virgin have to end up being about how superior BA is comapred to Virgin. BA vs Virgin, Boeing vs Airbus. Why can't certain people on this site just appreciate things without having to compare ALL the time.

Well Bond is produced by an American company (used to be UIP, might be Paramount now) and has been portrayed by both an Irishman and an Australian so he's probably about as British as Virgin, going on BCAL's logic.

Actually the ordinary shares in BA are majority owned by UK Nationals. Try buying shares in the company and you will be requested to complete a Declaration of UK Nationality before you are entered on the company's register. Non-UK nationals can only hold Bonds and unsecured loan stock in BA. This is to comply with the company's articles, otherwise BA would lose its status as a UK airline.

Actually the Bond movies are produced by EON Productions that operates from Pinewood Studios, England, and is owned by the Broccoli family.

The films are distributed by the Sony-MGM consortium, a japanese company.

Think you're wrong on that one.

For a start, many mutual funds invest in BA, these can be owned by foreign nationals.

also according to BMI, in 2002 48% of BA share capital was indeed foreign owned - showing that shares can indeed be owned by non UK nationals.

Very nicely said mate!
Yes people do and should have opinions on what airline is their favorite and such, but I find it funny how the topic was just asking if it was true that VIRGIN was going to be in a bond movie. ohhh well... people are making it seem like its bad that Sir Branson wants publicity for his airline. I'm only a kid, but sure I know this: That you need to get your company out there and seen. I'm surprised that other airlines haven't done this. I do remember Qantas being in an Ashley and Mary-Kate movie (I was baby sitting someone who was watching it Wink) but then at the end of all the trailers it showed the koala lying in First Class talking.

Completely flat bed, award winning veal crates, with access to an onboard bar, an inflight beauty therapist, not to mention the chauffeur driven car to the drive thru check in, and access to the virgin clubhouse.

People can knock our Upper Class suite as much as they want, but I can assure you that every single passenger is lapping it up, sound asleep, chillin' at the bar e.t.c.

Actually BA featured in Moonraker in 1979. There was the usual car chase and the baddies (Jaws I think) ended up crashing into the smiling mouth of a BA F/A on a huge advertising poster that displayed the BA logo "BA Takes Good Care of You" in a South American country (Brazil I think)

Strange that BCal never served the Bahamas or Nice.

However, Sean Connery, being Scottish, would be at home on the Scottish airline (although LGW based, they were built up mainly by Scottish investors).

A little further up the road - Genoa was a BCal destination.

Occasionally the B11s that served LGW - Tripoli made an unscheduled stop at NCE for refuelling since the route pushed the B11s to their limit if they went against strong winds.

And this loooong A340 are just outstanding it fits perfect into this Filmset. Thanks Virgin Atlantic  praise .

First Class passengers are my favourites. They can't get any further forward without an ATPL.

i honestly don't now why VS is getting such a stabbing on this thread, i mean, Branson's the good guy,

Just remember the dirty trick the BA pulled on VS to try and put them out of business, Anyone remember?

It should be BA that gets a stabbing,

VS and Branson will do anything for a bit of publicity.

Obviously with the Bond movies losing their popularity and now being surpassed by other spy thrillers, Bond had to be downgraded from BA First to VS Upper Class!

Quoting BCAL (Reply 9):
As I said, they will do anything for a bit of publicity. Unfortunately, the filming often includes a cameo appearance by Bearded in drag.

Quoting BCAL (Reply 9):
BA has featured in many more films/tv programmes than VS.

Quoting BCAL (Reply 16):
Sorry! Mentioning VS is like waving a red flag at a bull to me!

Seems you're not the greatest fan of Virgin and i dont see why...? We're young, refreshing and currently offer a better product than BA in J and Y across the atlantic...

I do however appreciate the BA do offer a Value For Money product. They make alot of money and are very respectable (I'd fly them).

So what if Virgin will do "anything" for a "bit" of publicity, at least people are talking about us...!!!

Why use PRG as MIA? Can't they do this in MIA? I mean, regular travellers will know that PRG is not MIA!

Yeh, it mentions that in Branson's auto-biography and also on his tele-biography on the Birography channel.

Unless they put interminable security lines, dirty floors and walls.. peeling brown and green paint of circa 1984 vintage, tons of people, each with 3 tons of luggage each...

Yet again this posting has changed for the original posting

"Virgin A340-600 To Feature In New Bond Movie"

To a competition about VS & BA !! Everyone has their favourite airline !

Anyone get over it !!! lol

And as for the comment about The Upper Class Suite looking like Veal Crates ! It obviously looks lush as VS made lots of money for the design when Air New Zealand bought the design and it now features in their business class !!!!
Hello Beautiful !!!

I think it's much more cheaper to use PRG and it's surroundings. They not only used the apt, but also other parts or Prague and Czech Republic for shooting. Our country is generally very popular among filmmakers, for historical sites but mainly for low rental costs and staff vages here.
there is no coincidence

Back in the 80’s British Airways stared in a bond movie, but can’t remember which one

They feature in the last one, flying from Cuba.

Quoting Richard28 (Reply 11):
after all lots of BA's stock is not owned by British people either.....

Sorry, this is an actualy question, but what of BA's stock (not shares) are foreign owned |?

Quoting Mt99 (Reply 22):
Austin Powers.. Yea Baby!

Didn't he have his own 747 ?

Yep, also remeber how he plastered no way BA/AA on his planes because he was affraid BA might just out beat him ?, how he constantly compares BA club world to his upper class product ?, how he was constantly on the tele whinning about how he could save Concorde, when he realy couldon't, how BA bought Concorde for a pound (which I believe they didn't).
Oh, and remember how VS along with a few other airlines tryed to put SkyTran out of bussiness ?.
His 'mines longer than yours' slogan on his A346's ?, who do you think this was aimed at, the tooth fairy ?, no it was aimed at BA.
Just remeber VS was set up as a competertor to BA, he WANTED BA out of bussiness (why else would he do it ?) FR, EasyJet, they all hate BA, they most probably want BA gone too.
So where exactly is the good guy part ?, if he's so loving, why don't his staff have unions ?
I bet if BA were to plaster slogans against VS, he wouldn't like it, he doesn't like being played at his own game, he does it because he knows BA won't react.
