Because most people interested in knowing will have missed it if you hide it under such a generic title...

Anyway, to answer the question:

It is Xiamen Airlines which dropped their 3 787-8s.

Xiamen converted their order for 3 787-8s into orders for 6 737s.

Yes, no need start a new thread over This one, we got it, just move on.

The title of thread is misleading, one order for three aircraft was cancelled (converted). I wonder which of the remaining "five sisters" get the leftover slots?

Indeed, but it was converted to a completely different plane (i.e. 737) so the net result is one customer less for the 787. Therefor I'd say this thread is not half as misleading as this one:

which got 50+ replies....

I don't understand your value judgement about the other "offending" thread being far more misleading than what I pointed-out here, as the headline of the linked news article was: "Emirates cancels order for 2 Airbus A380F planes." The topic of the thread was: "Emirates Cancels 2 A380F Planes," with a quote from the article and no comment whatsoever from the threadstarter.

IMO, that story, although already stale and being discussed in the forum, was infinitely more interesting because of the reason given for the switch/cancellation/conversion:

“Final definition and specification freeze were proving elusive,” says Emirates president (airline) Tim Clark. “We needed to protect our delivery positions and switched the order to the passenger version. Once the freighter is ready, we will have another look.”

Did Xiamen have some change of general direction to make them swap mid size widebodies for single aisle high frequency airplanes? They stayed with the same manufacturor and none of the other Chinese airlines attached to the same group changed so it's apparently not dissatisfaction with the product.

Any ideas for the root of this change?

But I would not be surprised if those 3 will be reallocated to another chinese carriers as part of the 60 ordered.

I am still confused as to the CO order of 7+13. It makes sense that the 3 cancelled are part of this. We have to wait till what Boeing has to say.

I am wondering if another Chinese carrier my pick up these 3 787’s.

As they were a part of 60 ordered from the Government and then allocated to different airlines. What of the chances of the government realocating them to a different airline?

I am confused, why isn't Air Canada on the orders list? I thought they had ordered some B787's.

Shame not to see 787's in Xiamen Airlines colours, hopefuly we will see some in the future possibly!

Isn't it funny how the 787 doesn't get slated as much, if someone were to drop an A350 order then there would be a massacre towards the A350  Wink

I think it was UA for dropping their order for 200 787-9's, DL for 45 787-3's and F9 for 2 787-8's, or something like that  Wink

If a customer Cancelled a 350 order to order 787 (Or the other way) that is news. But a customer re-thinking their stratagey and replacing 3-787s with 8-737s is a different story. In the end Boeing did not lose business

I think CZ will take the orders because CZ signed an initial agreement to purchase 13 Boeing 787 aircraft, 3 of which were for its affiliate, MF*.

They were the smallest 787 customer, and had a history of only buying and operating Boeing narrowbodies. They may have decided that they might be better off focussing on short haul.

I am looking foward to seeing the 787! I also think it is a better platform then the airbus and has more potintal then the airbus. The 787 should futhfill most airliners needs.

IIRC, the so-called cancellation is actually an order change. A Chinese airline converted the order to 737-800s. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Does it really matter. How many airbus's wont even get ordered? Boeing is back on top baby. I see that us Boeing fans are well out numbered by the majority of nations with airbus. All these threads are all Boeing bashers. I think Boeing orders and past orders speak for themselves. Boeing build BETTER airplanes always have always will.

As to whether Boeing is better or not...I do not know. However like many others around here, I enjoy seeing both Boeing and Airbus successfully taking orders

Boeing expects China to reallocate Xiamen's cancelled Boeing 787 orders, take six more 737-800s.

Today a source close to the deal says the three Xiamen 787s, although currently booked as a net loss on Boeing’s June 13 online order book, will be reallocated to a Chinese carrier, a move that will retain the 60-aircraft order placed in January 2005, and negate the current net loss on the order book.
