Loganair - The Future?

Fri Jun 16, 2006 6:59 pm

There was some talk recently that Loganair were keen on ending their operating agreement with BA as the franchise was no longer as mutually beneficial than when the deal was signed in 1994. Has there been any update since that anyone knows of? Could we, for example, see Loganair get back into bed with BD in a similar manner when both airlines were part of the Airlines of Britain group?

I'm not sure where the future lies wit LC without BA. Unless it continues to offer some onward connections. Perhaps with BD pulling out of the islands, LC can connect from the islands to the EDI/GLA to LON or further afeild such as BRU or PAR.

With BD scrapping their EDI SYY flight, I think it would be bad for the islands if the LC BA agreement comes to an end.

Fllights to SYY are around 100 GBP ret. all in. You get a light snack, and I'm not sure if its true for the whole of LC, but my mother tried to get a whiskey recently only to be told that there was no onboard bar. Service is similar to mainline BA.

The snacks/bar service seem to be very hit and miss depending on what flight you are on. I flew SYY GLA a couple of weeks ago and was only offered tea or coffee. On the flight back this week there was a full bar. No food on either. There used to be a ful bar on every flight but they have made cutbacks.

The cost of flying to the islands is expensive. You are very lucky if you manage to get an SYY GLA return for £100. You would have to book well in advance.

Definitely no cabin service on the GLA-TRE flights unless you class a low pass over Fingall's Cave for sightseeing as on board service......guessing that the other DHT operated routes are the same Big grin

We get a lot of roller-coaster descents into SYY but the little Saab 340s seem to handle them pretty well. The last I can remember being on was in December with a 40mph north wind. A few worried faces on that flight.

The DHT is like a flying Land Rover - solid & built to last. A bit of a hard ride at the best of times, but in rough weather it holds it's own against the SH6 & the Saab.

Does anyone have any idea how old Loganairs Saab 340 fleet is and roughly how long can we expect them to be around for?

Quoting BDKLEZ (Thread starter):
There was some talk recently that Loganair were keen on ending their operating agreement with BA

I thought these rumours originated when Loganair took their Islanders out of BA colours and partly repainted them giving them 'LOGANAIR' titles:

And I thought at that time that this was because on such a small aircraft offering a BA type service was impossible.

However as Loganair have recently expanded their fleet they have been very slow to repaint their new (second-hand) aircraft. While they have added 'Operated by LOGANIR SCOTLAND'S AIRLINE' nose titles:

to these aircraft they have continued to operate them either in all-white colours or in the Basic livery of their previous operator:

We could interpret this in two ways. The first is that the BA franchise will not be renewed and Loganair are avoiding the cost of painting in BA livery for just a short period of life. The second is that if the franchise was to end why paint 'Operated by Loganair' titles on the nose. The very slightly lower cost option of just 'LOGANAIR' would be better.

So all this raises one question. When does the current franchise agreement come up for renewal or termination?

I just cant imagine why it would be in their best interests to terminate the franchise. If they do I think they will stagnate.
