Air Canada's Load Factor Record

Just was perusing the AC website, and noticed that AC toots its horn on it s record for load factors, and the month to month increases. Is this not directly related to the "right sizing" of the markets that AC has been working on?

They have been downgrading many US flights from Airbus to Embraer models, and been offering more sales. I know that they are doing well, and that they continue to improve their product, but i feel that maybe the Load factor record can be attributed to its market adjustment.

Anyone have a comment for this?

AC is in an expansion mode, adding ASMs and RPMs. More mid-sized planes are being added. While some markets are being right-sized - usually in the form of reduced capacity on a specific frequency or two on a multi-frequency route - new routes are being added. On June 6, AC added YYZ-SLC. Today, it inaugurated YYZ-DEN. Tomorrow, it inaugurates Toronto-Shanghai. July 1 it adds YYZ-SAN. And Jazz is rapidly spooling up capacity. Furthermore, while some routes are being down-gauged, like YYC-Houston which is a CRJ-705 instead of a 319 - a 319 was always too large, but AC didn't have a decent alternative - some routes are being upgauged, like YYZ-IAH which went from a CRJ-200 to E-Jets. So while there is market rightsizing in the cases, there is also market expansion and net system growth.

Wondering what's the idea behind that route...two cities where oil development is chief industry? Has there been any increase in passengers within the past two years where oil sand development has been greatly expanded?

With further oil sand expansion and more U.S. oil corporation investment maybe this route will need to up-gauge to a A319 in the next year or two..
