What Became Of Air Jamaica IN Flight Fashion Shows

Mon Jun 19, 2006 5:15 am

Recent thread on this site referring to "hottie" being featured on home page of current JM website got me thinking:

Whatever happened to Air Jamaica in flight fashion shows ? Anyone know when they ended and for what reason they were ended ?

Used to love being on final approach for Sangeter airport in Montego Bay
in a JM DC8-61 with the flight attendants strolling up and down the
aisles in bikinis and revealing coulott type outfits. Those were the days!

Goodness, does that bring back memories......I do remember travelling from JFK to Montego Bay on Air Jamaica's DC8-61s with the inflight fashion show (now that was IFE) and excellent inflight service......this was in the late 1970s.

What about the rum bamboozles, to say nothing of those rare tropical birds! Now, we get it at Bryant Park instead.. Sad

HAHA! Makes me remember Braniff International, and Texas International. They also had fashion shows on their flights, that made an impression on me when I was a kid. Then along came WN and their Hot Pants!
A line is evidence that other people exist.

One of our favorite family stories is from a trip on JM in 1973. My older brother, then five, got to hang out with the stewardesses in the changing area as they were putting on the fashion show. Made a lot of guys wish it was them.

Well, I hope to fly JM to UVF soon, so I'll let you know if they still have it. When I was working as a CSR at JFK several years ago, JM would still have their fashion shows on board. It was really nice, and they wore several different outfits.
