AA At TUL

Tue Jun 20, 2006 10:21 am

I just can't help but ask, is there any other non hub/focus city airport that gets as much of the AA fleet as TUL does from DFW?

ER4
CR7
M80
738
757

Quite a list. I can only assume it has something to do with planes being rotated in and out of maintenance?

Cheers,
Cameron

Indeed. AA sends 737s, 757s and MD80s up to TUL from DFW to rotate them in for maintenance, since TUL is AA's largest maintenance base by far (and the United States' largest commercial aviation maintenance base by far, as well).

Tulsa is AA's main maintenance center. That's why so many different aircraft make their way through there.

AA has thousands of employees in Tulsa. Try to non-rev there sometime...it's nearly impossible.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

Does AA also do AE maintenance in TUL? Where do they service the ERJs and CRJs? I've heard that they do some Saab 340 work in ABI, is that correct?

Thanks for the insight guys!  Smile

Generally no, although TUL has been known to do some limited contract work for Eagle, mostly component maintenance on the Embraers.

Eagle's fleet is maintained primarily in two bases -- Abilene, Texas and Marquette, Michigan. Abilene, which is actually a wholly-owned subsidiary called Eagle Aviation Services, handles Embraer/Bombardier/SAAB heavy maintenance, while Marquette does all the work on the ATRs and also other Embraer work.

Yep, SAABs are done in ABI. ABI (Eagle Aviation Services) also does all of the initial mod work on the Embraers when they are delivered from Brazil. They fly from Brazil to usually St. Maarten, and then Fort Lauderdale, and then Abilene, where Eagle fits them out with the leather seats, cabin interiors, etc. That hasn't happened in a while, though, as Eagle hasn't taken delivery of a new Embraer since last year.

That's correct -- and it's not uncommon for flights to ABI to be cancelled or delayed due to maintenance issues; a lot of the aircraft from DFW headed to ABI are in dire need of maintenance!

767-300's in AFW, 767-200's in MCI
That's why we're here.
