SEP Schedule Update For US

Wed Jun 21, 2006 1:58 am

Just finished looking through the recently updated September schedule change for US and noticed the following enhancements in the Northeast:

MHT:

CLT: 734, 734, CR9 (was 734, 733, CR7)
LGA: DH8, SF3, SF3, DH8, SF3, SF3, SF3, SF3 (one of those was a BE1)
PHL: CRJ, 734, CRJ, CRJ, E70, 733, CRJ, CRJ (same)
DCA: 734, E70, E70 (was 734, E70, 734)

1 additional LGA flight (as announced) and 11 more seats per weekday compared to July/Aug. Bad news is MHT will be down to 5 mainline flights. 1532 total seats each weekday.

BDL:

CLT: 321, 321, 733, 733, 734 (was 733, 321, 733, 733, 319)
PHL: E70, 757, E70, 734, CRJ, 319, E70, E70 (E70, 757, 319, E70, CRJ, 320, E70, CRJ)
PIT: CRJ, ERJ, CRJ, E70, ERJ (same)
DCA: 319, CRJ, 734, CRJ, 319, E70 (was 319, 734, E70, 319, E70)

1 additional DCA flight (as announced) and 119 more seats per weekday compared to July/Aug. 2357 total seats each weekday plus the PHX flight. 11 mainline flights.

PVD:

CLT: 757, 757, 733, 734, 734 (was 321, 757, CR9, 734, 734)
LGA: SF3, SF3, SF3, SF3, SF3, SF3 (1 was a BE1)
PHL: E70, 320, CRJ, 734, E70, 320, 733, E70 (was E70, 733, CRJ, 319, DH3, 319, E70, E70)
PIT: CRJ, E70, CRJ, CRJ (same)
DCA: 319, CRJ, 734, CRJ, 319, 319 (was 319, 734, CRJ, 319, 319)

1 additional flight to DCA (as announced) and 267 more seats per weekday compared to July/Aug. 2616 total seats each weekday. 2 flights upgraded to mainline - now up to 13 total.

These are nice additions for a month that typically sees lots of cutbacks in the region. Really glad to see US rebounding so nicely...

They'll be in a great position to capitalize on Delta's DOA emergence from Chapter 11 and eventual split up.

While most airlines do cut back in New England in Sept/Oct, US isn't traditionally one of them. US reallocates capacity there from the Caribbean, where there is a huge seasonal reduction in flights. LGA also sees a big increase in both frequency and equipment size to markets like MHT/PVD/ALB/ITH/BTV/BWI/SYR/etc as a result of Colgan and Piedmont ending their seasonal MVY/ACK service; these markets are just getting back to where they always are before the summer. Finally, the extra DCA flights were made possible with slots being used seasonally for MVY/ACK, along with the end of DCA-ORD service.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

Yes, I realize this, but the extra mainline capacity to CLT and PHL don't come from MVY/ACK service - moreso from Florida and the Caribbean, but not typically as much as they are adding this year. All while most every other carrier continue to drastically slash capacity from these same markets. I'm glad to see US isn't cutting and running in what have been long standing great markets for them.

In addition, US cut 197 seats from PVD from August into September last year, so this is quite the contrast from recent history when US was becomming a smaller airline.

Cause this is a new, improved US. I am glad they are looking back at the roots of both airlines. And I'm sure it will get even better once the E90 arrive.

The former US was just trying to keep their neck above water. This airline is trying to get market share back, while expanding at a more conservative and safer pace. I say kudos to them.

BNA was a route I was surprised they cut to begin with. Good news there for sure...

I recently heard the E90's will be online in November and primarily based out of PHL to start - looking forward to seeing where these will be used.

**Update**

IAH (Houston)

PHL - 4x E70
CLT - 5x CR9
LAS - 1x CR9 (-1 flight)
PHX - 2x 320, 2x 733, 1x CR9

A few things for SYR that are of note. DCA goes 4x daily, but loses the late afternoon E170 flight in favor of 2 afternoon/evening CRJ departures. CLT stays at 2x daily, but the second flight of the day is a America West Express/Mesa Airlines CRJ-900 in place of the CRJ-200.

This just in courtesy of a rare Wednesday schedule change by United:

MHT, PVD, and BDL all get 1 more 50 seater to IAD. BDL's in August and PVD/MHT in September. BDL will have 5 flights on a mix of 737/E70/ER4, PVD will have 4X ER4 and a new (resumed really) CRJ and MHT will have 4 ER4 (the 'new' one is also a resumption).

The real surprise is that PVD-ORD goes all mainline in October by upgrading the mid-afternoon departure to a 319 from a CR7. BDL gets a 757 to ORD in September as well. MHT looks to go all mainline to ORD (4X) in September.

While not the 'final' schedule yet, these changes indicate the direction UA is going in the Northeast this fall...

The second PIT-DEN frequency has been cut with the September schedule(the 5:55pm departure). The morning 8:55am frequency remains, along with United's two flights.

Also, US's morning PIT-PHX has been cut, but the flight on America West-metal remains (7:00am departure), plus the evening flight. I'm sure this was just correcting overlapping in the two flight schedules. The HP-operated PIT-LAS is gone as well, but both US 757's remain on the route.

The seasonal PIT-SAN and PIT-SEA have ended as well (though it seems a bit on the early side this year), and one of the E-170 frequencies on PIT-ORD has been cut.

Other than that, outside of some equipment adjustments to Florida, nothing else really stands out.

I think these were clearly on the way since some of those PHX/LAS flights left really close to one another.

United downgraded GSO slightly, with the 2 A319s to ORD this summer becoming 737-500s.

US has 3x CR9, 3x CR7 and 2x CRJ to CLT (down from 4x CR9, 2x CR7 and 2x CRJ). Doesn't look like any changes for PHL/DCA/LGA.

Not so far at least. Still two dailies on those routes which is a tiny bit surprising given management's stated desire to reduce transcon flying.

PIT-PHL maintains 11/10 (10 on PHL-PIT) peak frequencies in September but loses two mainline flights in each direction.

PHL-PIT goes from 1 757, 1 321, 1 320, 1 319, 2 734's, 1 733, 2 170's, and 2 CRJ's to 2 321's, 2 734's, 1 319, 3 170's, and 2 CRJ's.
PIT-PHL goes from 4 734's, 1 320, 1 733, 3 319's, 1 170, and 1 CRJ to 4 734's, 3 319's, 2 170's, and 2 CRJ's.

With the other changes listed above by other posters, it would appear that US will be at 41 weekday mainline departures from PIT in September.

Whats that mean?

I was joking, sometimes it just seems like US ends PIT routes just because...it was however a joke. SAV resumes!

Someone above, however said that big cuts are ahead for PIT, is this true? If so, what routes?

PIT's top destinations for US, according to *number of departures* are:

PHL- (11)
DCA- (7)
CLT- (6)
LGA- (6)
EWR- (6)
BDL- (5)
BWI- (5)
ORD- (5)

I am guessing the cuts won't involve the above cities. The rest of the cities served by US have no more than 4 daily flights, so any of them are a possibility I am presuming.

I really can't wait for those E190s to start rolling in. We are going to see mainline service to more markets, and in higher frequencies.

Are the E90 entrance at the expence of some other aircraft (737, A319) leaving? or has the fleet pretty much stabilized for right now?

Dang, no more PIT? I thought that was doing ok for a Sat only service. Oh well. What a strange schedule. I have never understood the US schedule down here, and it appears I never will.

Quoting CentPIT (Reply 34):
I thought PIT-SAV was doing fine as well, US must "not feel like" keeping the weekly route.

It did/does well enough, but it's a seasonal route, along with just about all the other SAV/MYR routes. It'll be back next year, just like it came back this year, and the year before...

It's not part of some grand conspiracy to get PIT.  Yeah sure

Yeah, they pilots contract says they can't do that, the minimum fleet count and so on.

And you know full well that that hard-line AAA ALPA MEC wouldn't dream of giving the company any more scope relief. The concession stand is closed, and all that.  Silly

(I couldn't even type that with a straight face.)

Though it seems this week, they're not worried about scope. The two MECs are too busy teaming up trying to throw the ex-CEL MDA pilots under a bus and have them removed from the US seniority list. You know, since that's just so important, that they not be recalled in 2013.  Yeah sure

I heard HP still had orders for A319 or A320 aircraft on the books at the time of the merger. Is US still going to be taking delivery of these? They are badly needed.

Yes, US and HP still both have on order the A32X aircraft that were ordered before the merger, though some of them were deferred a bit. HP has taken delivery of a number of A32X aircraft in the last year, but they're done taking those. The next wave of new planes starts in 2009.

From the original HP order, there are 3x A319 and 8x A320, all coming in 2009. From the original US order, there are 5x A321 coming in 2009, 6x A320 coming in 2010, and 8x A321 coming in 2010.

A few things for SYR that are of note

There's also two more LGA flights, on DH8s, for an insane total of ten daily flights. They might as well move SYR flights to the Shuttle side!  Smile
