You Can Like Both Boeing And Airbus...

Tue Jun 20, 2000 3:50 am

In response to all of these idiotic, not to mention ludicrous, Boeing vs. Airbus topics, it is possible to like and be satisfied with both Boeing and Airbus at the same time. I prefer Boeing for its widebodies (B747, B767, B777) and I prefer Airbus for its narrowbodies (A320 series). Which is why United Airlines made the best choice (like how Boeing did on the 777, doing what the customer wanted) and chose its planes based on what customers preferred. United's bread & butter (business travellers) preferred Boeing widebodies and Airbus narrowbodies. The only exception to this is that United also flies the B757, which isn't bad but could be a little wider. They need this aircraft for a variety of routes, ranging from Chicago-Denver to Los Angeles-Kona (Hawaii). They chose the B757 because of its verstatility.

Being the son of a United flight attendant, I have been exposed to and flown Boeings, Airbuses, and McDonnell-Douglases (long live the DC10  ) many times, and they all make fine aircraft, each with their own unique strengths.

On a more personal note, I have flown both the A320 and the B737 many times, and let me tell you, the A320 can and does kick the B737's @$$ anyday!

I agree, and I think that both make flying more comfortable and affordable than it has ever been before.

I have flown on a United A320 myself last year and YES I agree it kicks the 737's rear anyday. At least with the A320 there are no uncommanded rolls because of a defective rudder.

Of course! There must be a competition. It would be very bad if only one aircraft manufacturer would survive. I hope both (Airbus and Boeing) will make good business and good aircrafts.
On long haul flights I prefere the A 330/340 and B 767, on short haul it love the MD 80 but also the A 320 family and the B 737.

To Hartsfield:
I think you don't get the point. If there was only Boeing without a compeditor, the aircrafts would become much more expensive. For the spotters it would be very boring to see aircrafts from only one manufacturer.
Why do you hate Airbus? You don't explain it. Have you ever flown on a 320 or 330? I doute! I have flown on almost all Boeings (707, 720, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767) and on many Airbuses (300, 310, 320 family, 330, 340) as well on DC 9, 10, MD 80, 11 or on a L-1011. I know what I am talking about. Both manufacturers produce excellent airliners!!!

I also like both. I like Boeing for the 747/757/767/777 and Airbus for the A318/319/320/321. Both are excellent manufacturers and the Boeing vs. Airbus posts are extremely ridiculous. Who says that you have to hate one just because the other may make a better product in one segment of the industry.

You may not believe it for the way I have been slated in other posts, but I am a believer in both companies - I think that they both make excellent products.

It just really gets to me people who instantly say that one manufacturer is better than the other.

Let's face it, all aircraft will get you from A to B as safely as possible, in comfort (I have never been on either an Airbus or Boeing that I have wanted to get off - I love flying too much for that!) and as quickly as possible.

I personally have flown on A320, 330, 340 and B 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 and I think they are all great aircraft. I look forward to be able to fly the 744 and Concorde next year or so, and the A3XX/747NG as soon as possible after that!!!!

Boeing and Airbus are great companies that make state of the art airplanes. All the airbus/boeing wars are started by ignorant people that dont know what they are talking about. We all shold ignore these people and just stick to the subject. I understand its hard to ignore stupid coments but its the only way to stop it.

Personaly I think this forum should have a age limit.

I totally agree.
like ZHR said;there must be a competition.
personally,I could fly in both companies.I could work for both companies...
I really don't have any preference in Boeing or Airbus.
In the Airliners point of view I like B717,B747 and B757.A319,A320,A330.

I've flown on both Boeing and Airbus planes before, and they're all great aircraft with their sets of unique characteristics, like the A319/320 with its small winglets for example. Or the ubiquitous 747 with its upper deck and the small 737-200 with its skinny (but loud) engines. I like the A319, A320, 737-300/400/500 and the 747-400. I don't really have any preference for either manufacturer.

i like boeing better for now because i have only flown on boeing/McDonnel Douglas jets, but i have heard airbus jets to be very good and i want to fly on a couple but AA doesnt operate them exept for the A-300 but i could go either way, i only like boeing because i have been on them and they are safe, i look forward to going on airbus jets though, i just dont know when i will get my chance to.

I like both companies very well. I have flown on one Airbus so far, a UAL A320 and the plane was great! I think that both companies will continue to make exelecnt planes in the future!

Even though I have never flown on an Airbus before, I do agree that they both make great planes, and to do so they need each other for the sense of competition.

I like both too... the 717, 727, 747, 757, and 767 from Boeing and the A300, 310, 330, and 340 from Airbus. I actually don't like only the 737, 777 and A320 series! Then I like all MDC aircraft...

FINALLY!!!!!! There are people out there in this forum who aren't anti-(place aircraft manufacturer here). This goes to show that just because you like one product, doesn't mean its competitor is worthless. Personally, although my favorite burger-joint is Burger King, I still eat at McDonald's or Wendy's on occasion.

Also, in response to the age-limit post, this thread was started by a soon-to-be 18 year old!!!! I am not an airline pilot, or industry analyst. I graduated high school on June 2, and am currently working on my private pilot's license at Lake In The Hills, IL (I just soloed yesterday for the first time, Cessna 172R N913MA!!!!!!   ). I will attend Southern Illinois University next year, majoring in aviation-flight. Don't even try to tell me that this forum should have an age-limit. I feel that if someone has an interest in aviation and desires to learn more about it, they should be free to use this forum, capeesh?

Any questions?

...but you cannot get any respite from the people on this forum if you do!!!    Myself, I am actually happy to lobby both sides. I think both companies are great, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I agree totally with you, considering the ignorance level of this forum... . Also, for my entire life I have not given a D_MN about what others think of me. I have my opinion, I am sticking to it.

I agree with you completely. British Airways has also made a similiar fleet decision with A318, A319 and A320s and 744 and 777s all in service or on order. Air France also has Airbus narrowbodies and Boeing widebodies. Singapore Airlines, ANA and Air China have fleets consisting of those types also. The777Man

HawaiiB777: Congratulations for your first solo flight!

I don't think that there must be an age-limit in this forum. There are a lot of young teenagers who post very interesting topics (e.g. Teahan) and older people with stupid posts. If there are some silly "puberty posts" you can ignore it.
Hey to all teens: Go on with your posts!!

I have to add something on the Hartsfield post: ZRH is absolutely correct.
Hartsfield doesn't give a reason for his hate. I'm wondering why. Maybe he doesn't know it himself...
I have flown on many Bs and As and both are great. Hartsfield may have only played with models so far...
That reminds me on a kindergarten scene: My ice cream cone is bigger and better than yours, because it's red and not blue...bla bla bla bla

This post reminds me of some of the replies I have posted myself. It is clear that this site should be for AIRPLANE lovers, considering Boeing lovers as well as Airbus lovers or "both-lovers", and just desconsidering, ignoring any "haters", specially people like Hartsfield, who just do not write any reason but just silly, short senseless sentences. Many times their hatred is limited to the fact they have never flown one of those, or because they consider the foreigner an enemy, an invasor or even a lower being.

We all here should be devoted to "THE ART OF FLYING", no matter what manufactured genial machine gave us the immense pleasure to do so.

Thank you for all your replies, see how calm things can be when we are open-minded?

Again, ignorance breeds disaster (remember Hitler & the Holocaust?).

And, thank you to all the well-wishers congratulating me on my first solo flight. It was an experience to remember. The best part was right after taking off the first time, realizing that I had to get that thing down by myself!!!

To all fellow pilots out there, fly safe & fly the friendly skies! (my goal is to fly the 777 for United Airlines, no I am not starting A vs. B here, it just so happens the 777 is my favorite plane).
