BA 777 At MAD?

Wed Jun 21, 2006 11:24 am

Hi all,

I was looking around on ACARS a moment ago, and I stumbled across something interesting...

16:33 20/06/06 BA2466 LGW-MAD B772 G-VIIB
20:58 20/06/06 BA2467 MAD-LGW B772 G-VIIB

Just wondering if anybody witnessed this aircraft at MAD??

I wonder if that is because IB crew went on strike. As BA and IB share codes as well as revenue, BA might have put up the extra capacity to make up for the cancelled IB flights.

This is the third time British has sent the 777-200 to MAD. Hopefully it will be there again today since I'll be out spotting!

Folks

Thats the benefit of flying BA instead of a lo-cost carrier! If something goes wrong (in this case a fellow oneWorld carrier having problems) or there is a big conference/sport event in a city we can increase capacity very quickly!

Loving it.

They did something similar last year as some of their B737's were stuck in Italy due to an ATC strike. The B777 made appearances at Barcelona, Madrid, Manchester and Amsterdam. It happens more often at Gatwick because they will usually have a B777-200 (or two) spare, but very rarely have B737's spare, so when something like this happens, the B777-200 is the only replacement.

Could'nt agree more Speedmarque - have never ever had a problem with BA, just have'nt been fortunate enough to have been on a T7 yet. Have never seen a T7 in DUB though - maybe we need an EI321 to go tech so BA can help out a fellow OW member - at least for the next few months while we still are.

Given that BA codeshare with EI on Ireland/UK flights, I presume there's been no gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair by WW et al at the decision to withdraw from the alliance ?
