Looks like an old Citroen to me?

According to the caption it does seem like the car wasn't paying any attention, so yeah there probably was some danger. Without a caption I would have guessed that the kingair was stopped and had waved the car on.

It almost looks like the King Air is just starting to swerve to avoid the car...

Maybe not...wouldn't want to be in the car, though! Is that a child in the back seat??

I'm familar with the depth-of-field issues that telephoto lens use can cause, but based upon the shadow of the car and the shadow of the aircraft's wing (both relative to either side of the white painted markings in the lane) as well as the aircraft veering off centerline, it looks like they came close to hitting.

That car must have one hell of a blind-spot....

Or an idiot at the wheel. Seriously, how do you not see a friggin airplane coming down the road? Haha, I guess you don't have to pass an eye exam to get a driver's license in Belgium.

Ohhh Gosh, imagine the insurance company asking you about the car involved and you have to answer no sir it was a Beech 200 I hit last week on my way home  Smile

Btw, the car is a Peugeot 205 and I remember I owned a 205 GTI 1.9 in 1990 and it was pure fun to drive!

TCAS - not only in the plane but also in the car!!

Having worked with the image I have added two lines.
First goes from where the left rear wheel touches the ground through the left front wheel and across the centerline of the taxiway. Second line is on the right side of the white marking showing the centerline of the taxiway. all lines refer to ground level.
The intersection will give you an idea of how close the car is to the plane.
The distance along the centerline of the Beech from nose to props is around 1.5 meters / 5 feet. The picture with intersection lines

A little perspective on plane size and the taxiway markings at EBKT.

Inside of a modern car it is very hard to hear a propeller aircraft from the front.

I drive by a train crossing every day, and if it weren't for the arms that come down, I wouldn't be able to hear that horn until the train is only say 100 yards away.

keep in mind it has to get through the sound proofing of my car, and then over what I am listening to on the radio.

For another perspective on scale, look closely at the left photograph. Starting at the near-side piano keys, if you go vertically upwards, you can see a silver colored vehicle on the service road. The "period" (distance front to front) of the centerline marks on the service road appears to be approximately twice the length of the vehicle. So say that period is approximately 12 feet.

In the thread starter's (right) photo (also in JHSFan's modifications in post 26) it seems that the distance between the far end of the car and the nose wheel of the aircraft is less than one period of those centerline marks. So less than 12 feet!

Uhh, that looks more of a road rather than a taxi way. If I had the say, it looks like the plane shouldn't be there rather than the car. Obviously that plane is not legal to taxi on that "taxiway". A taxiway should support a plane with some space leftover.

Did you ever stand next to the railway when a train comes speeding by with 200 kmh? Even if the you hear the horn then all you do is turn your head and say f***. No real chance of avoiding.
I want to see the legal issues of that airport. Planes on a public road? I just don`t understand how that can happen except for a emergency landing.

If you ask me, that must be one of those "airpark" spots that seem to be rather common in the USA. You know, where people have properties next to the airfield itself, and their "garages" are actually small aircraft hangars.

Mind you, those planes aren't exactly "standard" GA  worried

Am I the only one thinking that old people behind the wheel is a general risk factor out on the roads? If I had gotten a buck for each time I've been REALLY close to having an accident with an old fart not paying attention...well, I'd be the next Bill Gates.

Now, I'm not saying that old people shouldn't be allowed to drive, but maybe they should have some sort of test every year to determine if they are capable to drive or not.
If something can go wrong, it will.

Possibly he was unfamiler with the area ?.

Also alot of non-aviators that end up driving on airfields like that have no idea that a/c have right of way over everything including emergency vehicles.

I have had similar problems at my flying club in South Africa. It is possible to drive into the g/a area of the airport and see the runway from the fence, but all the g/a a/c are on the same side of the fence and you get stupid people that go to watch the a/c and let their kids run around unsupervised whilst the g/a a/c are trying to taxi. The dumb kids don't even move out of the way sometimes either  eyepopping  then they drive around ablivious to the taxiing a/c manouvering around.

Also most car insurers do not cover you for having an accident with an a/c - unless you pay a premium on your poilicy so would be interesting to know how that works on that road.

The car's coming from the right hand side of the airplane, thus, the airplane must give way to the car. How did you all get your driving licences if you don't know elementary stuff like that? Big grin  Silly
