I heard it was doing well. The yields may be so-so, but the load factors are excellent. They have both sectors to themselves: Abu Dhabi to Brussels, and Brussels to Toronto are both Etihad's alone. And Toronto has a huge Indian population, who can fly beyond AUH to the old country. Yep, it's a winner.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

I was under the impression that SN Brussels had the rights to fly pax BRU-YYZ on EY equipment under a code-share. Whereas EY had the rights to fly its own pax AUH-BRU and AUH-YYZ ..

i may have misunderstood ..

Is there any chance of doing this non-stop at some point?

my understanding is that they do not have traffic rights YYZ-BRU vv - only their codeshare partner SN can sell seats on this sector

if you go to EYs website and try book flights you will see that if you enter from BRU you are not presented with YYZ as a destination , likewise , if you enter from YYZ you are not given BRU as an option

Pardon my ignorance, but is EY actually flying its planes into YYZ at the moment? If so, why can't I find a picture of an Etihad plane in YYZ?
Next flights: YQM-YOW-YOW / YQM-YYZ-CPH-YYZ-YQM / YQM-YUL-LYS-BRU-YUL-YQM / YQM-PUJ-YQM

If they really want to compete head-on with EK, then eventually they would have to i think ... I hope so.

Yes EY flies 3 weekly frequencies into YYZ on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. EY501 arrives into YYZ at 22:10 well after dark even during our longest daylight days. That is the reason why you probably haven't seen any pictures online.

Thank you! I had been looking for pictures for a while but couldn't find any; that's why I was wondering if the service had ever started, but I see that it has. It's funny, because you can find in the various databases pictures of most airlines and types flying into YYZ, but not EY. Like you said, it certainly has to do with the flight times.

EY sell AUH-BRU and AUH-YYZ
SNBA sell BRU-YYZ and BRU-AUH

Thats right isn't it?

Until the bilaterals between Canada and The Emirates is solved, EK won't be able to fly to YYZ..

also, EK was given the opportunity to fly 3x/weekly (with up to 6x/weekly)..but they wanted daily flights..to which it wasn't allowed...

regardless, if it was 3x/6x or whatever, EK didn't take it and EY jumped all over it...

That's right, but SN has the exclusive rights for the BRU-YYZ-BRU legs.

Correct!
IIRC the EK manager handling those negotiations with the CTA was fired shortly after that debacle.
EK would love to get into YYZ and their brand recognition among the average person here is enormous.
However if EY is smart and continues to open up routes to South Asia from AUH they will do phenomenal business from Toronto and may trump any future entry by EK into the YYZ market.
My hope is that they both will eventually serve Pearson.

Kaz

Let's not kid ourselves. EK doesn't negotiate with the CTA. Governments negotiate with governments. If EK wanted more than the bilateral allowed, it was up to them to go to the UAe, and get the UAE govt to make representations to Canada.

I know many Canadians who would like to fly EK..I'm curious as to why AC doesn't fly to DXB, etc..are they waiting for their new birds (777/787) to arrive?

same difference....EK had the final decision to fly or not to fly to YYZ..and they decided not to...where as EY did...

Nonstop at somepoint is a possibility.AUH-YYZ is now doable if the carrier wants to put one if its A345s on the flight. The current A332 wouldnt be able to fly it nonstop...
Guess what???I dont like you either...

EY doesnt make $$$ on the YYZ route!!!

They have decent loads coming into YYZ but not going out of here.

The biggest drawback to them is the SN Brussels codeshare arrangement which blocks 80 seats per flight and doesnt release the available seats until 48 hrs prior to flight's departure.

Added to this factor is that EYs summer peak season fares to India, BKK, CMB, PAK, DAC are more expensive than EK-QR-PK-GF from YYZ. Plus EY doesnt have a SPA with AC nor Westjet to feed pax from YUL-YOW and Western Canada. Lastly, from AUH, EY doesnt have decent connections all 3 days of the week to DEL, BOM, DAC, LHE and ISB.

Though one thing is positive...their cargo loads average 90% whole year round.

EK are the fools not to first try 6 weekly and then 2-3 years later ask for daily...they have no one but themselves to blame for that fiasco.

Indeed I'd call this a fiasco as well... or having the eyes bigger than its belly as we say in french.

I'm pretty sure EY will try it non-stop when they'll have enough planes (77W).
